Modding a JB Pup for a VERY bright guitar

Re: Modding a JB Pup for a VERY bright guitar

I fully support new speakers if you can finance them but if not you could try different capacitances on your tone pot, or a graphic equalizer and cut the 3k octave band. Danelectro makes a cheap and effective one

I suppose the easiest thing to do would be to turn the tone knob down. That or the treble on the amp.

I didn't read all of the other posts but the best thing you could do would be to leave the JB alone, sell it & buy a SH or TB-11. I think you're always going to hate the JB in that guitar & no amount of "mods" will change that. Maybe you can find someone who wants to make a straight trade for something that will work better for you and they'll get a new pup to toss in their
JB-friendly guitar?

Re: Modding a JB Pup for a VERY bright guitar

For a JB, what works for me is: 2M resistor across a 500k pot, and a tone control with a .001uf cap. I use that tone control on all bridge buckers. On a PAF, when it is rolled way down you get that old fat PAF tone that sounds a little like a slightly cocked wah (but much better), with a higher output pup it takes the edge off but leaves plenty of cut for a mix and plenty of articulation on the attack. It's a snot control, not a "bury my guitar amp 5' underground" control.
