I was curious about the slick Sensors Lace put out with clear covers years ago but never bit the bullet because they cost a mint.
They did a gold plated Anniversary set and then the Copperhead set (copper plated). I thought they would look badass on the right modern axe. The sound is quite specific, not for everybody but a plenty good & musical tone if you're not after 100% authentic vintage strat.
Fast forward to 2014 and they started offering pimped out Duallys. Ok, they're mostly cheesy but I saw the tinted covers on the "Visionary" pickup and it was pretty obvious that they added a gold ring which should come off easily. When I saw that Amazon was selling them for $59 each, I decided this was my chance to revive a Strat Ultra setup that I had in the late 90's. Of course this kind of surgery requires extreme caution or you can destroy a pickup in no time. Ask me how I know...
Here's the Visionary with gold ring taken off. I just had to clip the wire and pry the glue off the sides.
Here is what I want to do with them using my original Ultra pickguard from 96 or so:
So clearly I need to split one of the Duallys into 2 separate singles. No problem, I have a dead Sensor which looks like this when disassembled:
And this is how easy it was to disassemble the Visionary:
Get the aluminum base on (pardon the ugly soldering):
And this is what I get:
Now I just need to make another aluminum base (I'll just copy this one and use my drill press). Then I will get the uber-modern look I've always wanted for my Strat Ultra project. I will probably go for a cooler pickguard in the future, but for now it will drop right into my Strat Plus with swimming pool route.
There are a few things to note about the construction methods Lace uses because they have changed over the years.
If you'd like to know the specifics just PM me!
