Modeling preamps.????????

I am the proud owner ofa Mesa roadking but i am just not in the position to mic it and i havean old boss gx-700 that is on its last legs and sound like garbage anyway. I want something that can give as close as an approximation to my recto. as for how it sounds freom a speaker i don't care! I just want ti for recording on my hard disk recorder. So what is best Digitech, line 6, korg ect? I have heard samples on line of the line 6 and digitech and was blown away by the sound of the line 6 the digitech i did not think sounded like the recto it was suppossed to model. Has anyone used these things and have amp experiance to base it on and maybe point me in the right direction? THANKS Guys!!! POD .02/ mini pod?

i only have a POD 2.0 but the Mesa sound bank is the one i use most...

but the Tone Lab stuff by VOX i think is the best Modeler stuff out there now...

Really? But how close is the pod to the recto? There werw some sounds that i heard that really soundedlike what thay said like the was a sound labled"reelin" and i am like is that what i think and its the reelin in the years sound to a tee. I will look into the tone lab stuff as well.

Fractal Audio has taken the modeling pre-amp idea to a whole new level. I wouldn't even call it modeling, more like a pallet for any sonic landscape you choose. It's pricey, but the thing just blows everything else away and the effects are top notch.

i want to try out some more of the Boss multifx boards... years ago i liked their multifx's.... that was before Modeling.... i hear the COSM or whatever they call it can be great sounding

I use nice amps, modelers, and OD's, and there's a few ways of looking at it.

The best and most toneful way is to beef up the sound of your Roadking at low volume, and record it with a mic. Use a good clean boost pedal with a linear gain, something like a Klon or Banzai Coldfusion....others will work well, like an OCD or the new Fulltone GT500. Getting a tube amp to sound great at normal volume and micing it is the best option.

I'm still a fan of my Valvetronix AD60VTH head, since it's essentially a head with the tweakability of a POD. Direct sounds OK, but micing it still sounds best....or a combination of the two.

I still think getting a nice tube amp juiced up with the right OD pedal, then micing it gets the best results. I get the best tones by running my Bogner head at useable volumes, and using a Klon to make up for the low volume coldness. A good boost pedal in front of a tube amp allows you to tailor the tone best. Learning to mic it is the second half of the equation.
