I heard a lot of people say the speaker is at least 50% to blame for that RI lack of warmth. Someone took the speaker out of his old DR and put it in a DRRI and then suddenly there was much, much less difference between the two. Not sure if that's the whole problem, and it probably isn't, but at the very least:
Fender's reissues of their own products do sound enough like the originals to be called "good amps" (at least in my book, and apparently the books of a wide range of people).
