Modern Player Tele

Been looking at one of these Modern Player Telecasters for awhile and I played a couple at the Guitar Center. They seem nice but not sure. I play lead guitar in a country rock group.
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance.

Re: Modern Player Tele

There are solidbody and thinline versions of the Modern Player Tele.

The solidbody models I've tried haven't inspired much confidence. They feel like cheap imports. For country rock, a bridge full-size humbucker may not be what you want.

The thinline version of the Modern Player Tele is likely as cheaply built, but the P90s and 2V 2T controls appeal to me. If I can find one cheaply, I'll probably pick it up as a modding platform.

The pine bodies are good. It's hard enough that screws don't strip or pull out. The hardware is good like Mex level quality. The necks are vintage in appearance but are 9.5" and rhe frets are in between vintage and med jumbo. While perfectly good, the fret edges can be improved by filing the ends smoother.
The output jack is fine, but the pots, knobs, 5 way, and wiring is all garbage. The pickups are mediocre.

If you buy one, gut all the electronics and install Fender vintage dome knobs, Fender 5 way, CTS 500K pots, and maybe install new pickups.

Here's mine with new electronics, custom pickguard, C/59 hybrid nickel, and SM-1n mini humbucker.20171230_135635.jpg
