Modified two more of my Yamaha Pacifica's this week

Re: Modified two more of my Yamaha Pacifica's this week

Just to add some more gratuitous guitar porn, here is a pic of a US made Pacifica that lives in the Engineering dept. here

Definitely a great playing and sounding guitar, loaded with duckbuckers in the neck and middle slots

Totally agree with the 611 choice. I'm seeing them for under $400 used. Real Duncan P90 and Custom 5, Graphtech saddles and nut.....locking tuners and.....oh yeah.....Yamaha=Win

And the 611V has a great Wilkinson trem.

Yeah, this looks like the one I'd like. I've only played a few Pacificas, and that was years ago. How can you describe them? Flat\small\chunky neck? Like a tubbier Strat? I don't remember much about the few I've played, but I liked the design.

Re: Modified two more of my Yamaha Pacifica's this week

13.5" radius, 41mm nut, small c shape. Not fat or chunky at all. More comfortable for smaller to average size hands. I've heard/read some guys with larger hands complain about the narrow nut width. I can say they are really consistent from one model to the next. I have, at last count, 8 various 112J and 112M models, a 311MS, a 120SD and a couple of RGX and YGX models. Aside from my 521 (compound radius neck) all of the neck profiles are pretty much identical. Obviously I like them.

Honestly, this sounds perfect for me.

Re: Modified two more of my Yamaha Pacifica's this week

You can typically pick up a 112J or 112M for anywhere from $100 to $150.00.

Re: Modified two more of my Yamaha Pacifica's this week

I love the flatter fretboard radius on the Pacifica guitars. Very easy to play and bend notes. I don't recall ever having one that had bad frets either. Of course you can figure you may have to have the nut filed a little for the best action, but I've found the nuts to be much better filed than the PRS SE guitars I also get. I've played most of mine without even getting the nut filed. Of course after it is filed you can get the action down a little more, but I haven't had any problems with the way they're filed from the factory. Every one of my 112J or 112M's feel exactly the same on the neck profile.

I'm still on the hunt for a natural finish 112M (maple fingerboard). I have had leads on two of them but a former "friend" bought both right out from under me. Still looking for my "unicorn" haha.

That would be cool. I love my natural finish 112J. It was my first Pacifica I ever got. I got it in a trade as an add-in to make the trade happen and when I played it I thought it was awesome. Ended up selling the other guitar in the trade and have kept the Pacifica ever since. :)

Does anyone know of a general guide to the features of each particular model number of the Pacificas? It seems like there are over a dozen models.

I don't know of a general guide. Some of the older models it's kinda hard to find specs on. Of the current models I wouldn't get the PAC012 just because it has the cheapest tuners.

Re: Modified two more of my Yamaha Pacifica's this week

Yeah I thought the M designated the maple fretboard. Meanwhile your black 112M jaunts up and down the east coast....lol. Done as much touring as I have at this point haha.

Re: Modified two more of my Yamaha Pacifica's this week

Yep, it's a 112J. Don't know why I thought M. I forgot the M meant maple fretboard. Here's a couple pics of it. It looks the same now, but it has the Lil '59 in the bridge. I love that pickup. I just replaced a bad tone pot in it tonight. Trying a 250k with the greasebucket tone circuit. Sounds good so far. I'm using it at my gig this weekend.
