Modifying your amps appearance...

So I got this amp that I love, but it's beat to hell from years of use. I snapped today while driving past the fabric store. Dropped 30 bucks on some cloth with a cool pattern, took it home, and reupholstered the amp.

Worked great... But I am wondering, is there any reason this would mess up the amp? It's a combo amp. I guess my primary worry was static electricity, as the new fabric is cotton, and it's up against the original vinyl.

Also, to anyone who ever messed with their amps... How could I light it up without causing noise? I assume fluorescent lights are out of the question. And regular light bulbs would add to the heat.

Thanks!!!

buy an ass master?.........huh

anyway, i dont think the material should make much of a difference.........whats wrong with light bulbs............its got an open back doesnt it? i dont think it would really heat up..............fluorescent lights would look wicked.

Flourescent lights are the devil!!! They create too much noise on the power line, so it'll make the amp noisy and it also creates noise when the wavelengths of light it produces hits your pickups.

That cotton I don't think will last long.

o....thanks for telling me that i was thinking of trying it rofl..
are there other bulbs that are ok? what if you stand far away from the amp and the light doesnt hit your pups? what about a bass?

Maybe incendescent, LEDs would be the smartest idea. Don't do flourescent though. Flourescent will just cause too much noise. LEDs would consume extremely low levels of power, cheaper, and are not noisy. Also LEDs you can run off a battery to keep seperate from the amp.

Re: Modifying your amps appearance...

The flourecents will pretty much add noise no matter what. Everything can potentially pick up the noise they emit. My amp was almost unplayable once because of a nearby flourecent, and all I had everything unplugged but a 20' cable trying to find the source of the noise, and that was with an expensive shielded cable!

I have seen amps with lights in them before though, so it must be possible.

FLourescent lights create noise on your power supply, as long as they are on, your amp will have noise from them if they are on the same circuit as your is.

Re: Modifying your amps appearance...

I was running everything through a Furman PL-Plus, and when I unplugged the guitar cable, everything went silent again.

It's only done that to me once though, so I blame it on bad mojo.
