Modular Preamp.

Re: Modular Preamp.

Although I've not met one in person, I'm sure it won't be too difficult to rig up a push-pull to put it in/out of the circuit.

Does it even have a Level/Intensity control like the EMG Afterburner?

Re: Modular Preamp.

From what I'm reading about them, they don't have an intensity control, unless, rolling the volume knob back is considered a intensity control....

Re: Modular Preamp.

i know we are talking about modular preamps but...I toyed around with the idea of making a preamp/circuit board for a guitar..skills..yes...but absolutely no motivation...i have several schematics on my pc but its just one of a long list of projects that i havent gotten to yet

Not a bad idea if you can make it small enough to fit inside the control cavity of a guitar or under the pickgaurd of a strat type guitar

that and to make them quiet at the same time... ive done a few circuit boards from scratch and getting them small is a chore

here is an example of one of the drawings i have..atleast the component layout is done.. such a pain to do that

Re: Modular Preamp.

You can wire the pickup to either be "normal" or go through the pre-amp. It just takes a 4PDT switch per pickup - of which a push pull version does not exist. The main point of the Blackouts modular preamp is to turn passive pickups into actives, mostly resembling Blackouts, but with a slightly different flavor due to the inherent influence of the pickup itself. And you could probably wire a boost control to it - you're basically just putting a compact boost circuit between the hot wire of the preamp and the output jack. Just like having a boost pedal, but inside the guitar.
