im planning on making a warmoth strat and im curious how it whould sound with a mohagany body. good/bad , i want a fatt crunch tone and good sustain like a les paul

You may want to consider a Jackson SL2HMAH - a 2 humbucker mahogany guitar, Floyd, Duncans, ebony board, neckthru. They have the Strat body and they're very confortable. USA Jacksons are exceptionally well-made guitars. Plus if you have to sell it Jacksons do fairly well on ebay.
USA Jacksons aren't cheap, but they will probably save you loads of time and headache over a "project" guitar. Suggestion: ask yourself how much time would it take working your day job to get a Jackson (or any other name brand) Hypothetically let's say it would take a week - 40 hours - to earn enough for the Jackson. Even if the "project" was cheaper, how much of your time would be invested in a "project"? 40 hours? If so what have you gained over a name-brand guitar?

I swear by mahogany strats. My main axe is mahogany. Put a throaty bridge humbucker and you have a rockin axe! I don't want to say that it will give you a Les Paul tone, because no matter what you do to a strat, it will always be a strat. But it will give you very Les Paul like characteristics. The difference is that the Strat will have a clearer voice and won't get as muddy. It will still have the characteristic Strat spank and attack, but will sound fuller. Single coils sound wonderful in mahogany too. The mahogany really fills the single coils with a bit more girth. Glassy, low output single coils will sound warm and full with chimey top end. They sound like a less middy P-90 pickup.
Strats are capable of Les Paul like sustain, but it takes a bit more work to get it. Your guitar has to be properly set up and make sure your neck joints are solid and firm. Generally speaking however, the Les Paul will have better sustain. What gives Les Pauls their dark tone is the set neck and shorter length. I'd recommend a dark pickup like an alnico 2 pro or a custom or even a custom custom.

if you want your guitar to sound like a les paul, then you want mahogony. it wont be cheap, but its the way to go. if u really want it to sound like a les paul, your going to need a mahogony neck too. i dont think warmoth can do set necks, so i think you are out of luck there but that should get you close.

Guitar Center offered both an exclusive SSS and HSS mahogony Strat last year. Great, fat, warm sounding guitar. It had a transparent cherry-ish finish, black pickguard, dark rosewood board, and a painted black headstock. Very classy looking axe. I'm sure you could still find one if you're interested, it was in their catalog as recently as last fall.
