I am considering buying a Plexi. Maybe a RI maybe old one. During my search the Mojave Amps came up. They llok very cool and seem to be priced comparable to the Plexi RI. Anyone here have any experience with these Amps?

Re: Mojave Amps.

If you want a plexi, get a Mojave Peacemaker. You simply can't find a better product for the money. It's a truly amazing amp.

Re: Mojave Amps.

They are great amps, the Peacemaker 100 watt and Scorpion 50 watt Plexi copies will run you about $2300.

I would also suggest looking at the THD Flexi 50, what a cool amp that is. They run about $1500.

Re: Mojave Amps.

Make sure you try to play any plexi copy you find before buying. There's a lot of buyer remorse with these types of amps, mostly because they all feature varying amounts of gain and low end tightness. I've checked out Mojave's and although they're great amps, they didn't totally knock my socks off. The problem with a lot of these high dollar boutiques is that it's hard to find dealers that stock them, to try them.
It's best to play them first. From my experience with plexi knockoffs, the Wizards, Blockheads, and Roccaforte's have the most gain, while others like Blues Pearl, Holland, Mojave, and Carr are cleaner or grainier. It's hard to tell what you'll get, sight unseen.
Just my 2 cents.

Re: Mojave Amps.

Or you can buy a plexi reissue and have Don Butler mod it for you, costs about $400 but when you consider you'll invelst less than $1,500 for the amp and the mod it's well worth the investment. A friend of mine had his 100 watt plexi reissue modded - after the output transformer broke in the amp sounds incredible - as plexi as it gets. Highly recommended alternate to a boutique amp at twice the price.

But I believe these Plexi reissues actually use circut boards, don't they? What's nice about Mojave is they are point-to-point handwired.

Re: Mojave Amps.

You can also pick up almost any JCM800 tube head or combo, and send it to Jeff Seal. For the price you're talking for the above mods...give or take some...Jeff will convert it to PTP using top notch components and voice it to Plexi, or Silver Juibilee, or most anything you want.

Hell, pick up a head for $500-600, have Jeff mod it and be out for under a grand.

Amazing stuff.
