Mold On Cabinet!

The Golden Boy

Last night during band practice I noticed fuzz growing on one of my cabinets. I look, and sure enough, there's mold growing in the carpet on my cab. It's an older (pre-96)SWR Triad cab, and it sits in the damp basement- our practice studio. I rarely take it out, as I gig with a 2x15, but this really bums me out.

Anyone know of any good methods of permanently removing mold from carpet fibres?

Re: Mold On Cabinet!

can u take the carpeting out. If so, take it out, bring it outside & brush it off. Then spray lightly some lemon juice & let it sit out in the sun for a couple of days.

Re: Mold On Cabinet!

maybe try those anti-mold sprays? havent tried it on an amp. but otherwise they work for me. they kill molds pretty fast and dry em out, turning them black instead of green.

foamy's idea of dryin it out in the sun sounds good. dry that sucker up and make sure its dead or else it'll spread later.

Re: Mold On Cabinet!

I would recommend having the cab re-carpeted if I were you. Once mold gets into fabric, it's there for good. You can kill it or bleach it, but it will still be there. If it has penetrated the wood, you can try killing it with bleach.

That said, I have a mold allergy, so maybe I'm just paranoid.

Re: Mold On Cabinet!

I'd use a carpet steam machine with upholstery tool, but only because I still have all my equipment from when I used to do that. Try a wet/dry vac or rent a carpet machine at the grocery store, do all the carpet in your house, do your cabinet, and knock out two birds with one stone.
