Momentary KillSwitch!

Got directed here from SD's Facebook site...

I hope I find the one and only right answer here!
Got probably the worlds easiest Q.....How to wire a single humbucker, one volume (500k).....and, here's the "tricky" part....a Momentary KillSwitch from AllParts with 2 luggs!
Had a blast yesterday, trying to figure it out with a zillion rewirings in a couple of hour
They (AllParts) suggest to just break the lead (before output) with their switch....that doesn't work unless it's hum you want instead of "kill"?
Pretty please, give me a me a simple sketch of something that works with this particular Switch.....I used to have another one from a hobby Merklintrainstore that worked just fine, but it was so pointy and sharp that I decided to opt for this little "soft at touchmonster" instead
This were it eventually gonna end up!

Wire up The single volume as normal. One side of switch connected to pickup hot, the other side to ground.

You need a push-to-make momentary button. If it's push-to-break then it's no good. When it's pushed, it needs to connect the hot and ground points on the jack plug. It's that simple.

This is what it says...."Momentary Kill Switch. S.P.S.T. normally-closed, momentary pushbutton. 0.51" diameter red plunger, 0.74" diameter metal bezel. 0.62" diameter threaded bushing mounts in panels up to 0.15" thick. Solder lug terminals attached. Always install in hot wires.

Example installation: To disable all sound, install kill switch in the hot wire leading to the output jack. Press and hold to disable all sound, or press repeatedly for desired effect."

But it sure don't work??

Yeah, that's a push-to-break and they really shouldn't be selling it as a kill switch. To install it according their instructions will have the same effect when you press it as pulling the plug out of your guitar - loads of hum. You need to short the hot and ground on the jack to do a silent kill switch. Send it back and get one that's normally-open.

It should go just before the output jack. Are you sure you didn't get the hot and ground wired mixed up?

It should go just before the output jack. Are you sure you didn't get the hot and ground wired mixed up?

Just cutting the hot wire is the same as pulling the plug out of the guitar. Go try it. It buzzes right? And so does this terrible way of wiring a killswitch.

So what's the correct, hum free way of wiring up a kill switch?
I also have a 2 lug momentary that I want to add to a guitar but I don't want that humming sound each time I click it. Especially with cleaner sounds

I like that too. And I'm generally not a V guy. Very subtle binding and inlays. Cool.

Thank you all, for you time and thoughts! Jumblejumble, I really think you got it nailed.....I didn't want to believe it first, but....there goes!
For the rest of you who wonder about the actual fun part, the guitar, here we got a first (sell it to the stores, so let's do our veryvery best!!) prototype from Asia, "sort of mahognybody/flame mapletop, sort of Rosewood fretboard"....no one knows, but the weight sort of agrees! Think they later turned up as Razor.....something!
After asking for a "cheap" V, a buddy of mine who works in a local guitarstore found it sitting as decoration under the roof, in the lightrig in his shop!!! Got it very cheap and found out it was quite a jem, got a neck pretty close to my chunky '56 Les Paul RI and halfway to my Esquire '66( vintage)!
The pickguard is of my design, inspired by Chris Speddings "Hurt" era, and I replaced the useless stock humbuckers with a "leftover" early 70ths Gibson humbucker of mine...everything is hunkydory except for that dang Killswitch! We haven't got any cool hardwarestores that carry your normal killswitches up here in Sweden.......except the Märklintrain ones I told you about in the beginning of this Tread! So this really Sxxks!
But anyway....

I'm not saying it can be done, bit it MIGHT be possible. If you're going to throw away the switch you do have, you could take it to pieces and see if it can be turned into a push-to-make instead. I recently did this with a cheap foot switch and it. Works now. It depends on the internals of the switch but it might just be a case of bending a couple of bits of metal so that pushing the switch connects them instead of disconnecting them.

Like I say, worth a try if you're going to be throwing it away.

Make sure the lugs are only connected when the switch is held down. That's the only kind you can use. Then wire it between the hot and ground on the jack so that it shorts them when pressed.

That switch has just 2 LUGS, this is not a typical SPDT on/(on) where you would short hot to ground, wiring directly the output jack wires.

YOU SHOULD WIRE IT AS FOLLOWING:

Solder your volume output wire (the one that was originaly going to the jack's tip) to one of the legs, then solder your jack's tip (hot) to the other leg.
That's all.

Hermetico, that's what he's done, and it causes hum, which is completely unsurprising as it opens the circuit out. A killswitch needs to short hot to ground. The button he has will not serve this purpose. I think we already covered this.

No, you'll get hum. The switch is not suitable for use as a killswitch.

So If I can reverse the guts of the switch and make it a usually off switch then wire it to the output jack in parallel it will work without any hum? I will try this soon
