Ok,
I really wanna make you people faint and puke via my sound clip posts in the near future. For that I am pretty much made up my mind on Lexicon Lambda USB(BTW for some reason I can not search the thread "Bought this Beast Today" by somebody who just ordered one from MF, how is it?) I have the mic part taken care off, can somebody give an advice on the monitors? my budget is about $120. Thanks

Cheers,
Chuga Chuga. \m/

Re: Monitor Advice please

For that price, you'd be better off getting a nice pair of headphones and using a set of nice computer speakers, 2.1 preferably, that you know the sound of.

I have a pair of old but pretty good sounding JBL computer monitors. But I've been told that they are pretty useless for recording, as far as having an idea what mix is gonna come out like.

Re: Monitor Advice please

You really do need to invest a minimum of 400 dollars for monitors. Mine are almost 700 per speakers so...

It's more about knowing your speakers than having top end monitors. I know these crap Harmon Kardon 2.1 speakers I have like the back of my hand, and I use them almost exclusively to set levels. I use my actual monitors for the fine details of eqing/comp, reverb tails, etc, but the H/K's get a lot of playtime.

I think they were like $30 bucks extra on a new Dell 5-6 years ago.

Re: Monitor Advice please

I have old ass JBL Pro Premium Speakers that have compaq stamp on them ....

Re: Monitor Advice please

Again, it's more about knowing the speakers than anything else. I know exactly where things should be hitting, level wise, on my H/K's, just cause I've been listening to music on them for 5-6 years.

Re: Monitor Advice please

Hmm .... your music and mine are fairly close .... but I have no experience recording so i am afraid it will take me forever to figure this stuff out, the immidiate reason I wanna get into it is were entering a drummer search and I really wanna have a few recording that transcend our thing crystal lear .... andbody else?

Re: Monitor Advice please

Go used. Maybe some M-Audio's or something like the old Alesis...forgot the name now. You can't get anything new I don't think? I have read of a few movies sound tracks mixed on 4" M-Audio speakers. http://www.zzounds.com/item--MDODX4 or the 3". Just check your mixes on bigger speakers, consumer.

I have zero experience in home recording .... I am afraid using non recording speakers will my learning prices skewed, long, and increadibly painful.

I know I sound like a broken record, but again...

It's more about how well you know the speakers than anything.

A set of Genelecs or Tannoys would be absolutely useless to you right now, and would probably give you worse results than that set you always listen to music on now, simply because you aren't as well acquainted with them.

Start recording with the speakers you know, save up, and buy a pair of monitors that will be worth keeping for a couple years or so. Then, you have plenty of time to learn on them have it mean something, because you won't be forced to upgrade again when you've outgrown your cheapie M-Audio 3"ers or whatever.

Got you. So you think at this point you are saying that my old ass JBLs are better than even these

Considering I am a newb to the whole thing?

Re: Monitor Advice please

what about Behringers?? After all you are on a budget, and I havent heard about them being unreliable.IDK.

Re: Monitor Advice please

The Truths are probably the best low end monitors you can get - Tue Madsen uses them for mastering work, and he's awesome.

But yeah, I'd recommend saving your money and using what you're used to right now than getting the Alesis or M-Audios.

Re: Monitor Advice please

Buy a pair of AKG 141 studio headphones..and begin to save for really good monitors.
That's the best advice i can give!1000$ per pair is a good start. But the AKG is going a very good job!

You mean to record myself with headphones on ? I would prolly have to get an eq for it two ... My budget is only for Lambda Lexicon and something else, my bro has the mics .....

No need for EQ for that!
That headphone is perfect for home recording!Really neutral ,and believe me ,since i use it ,i don't really need a major Mastering. If your ears are well ,the Headphone will "show" you what you really play ,and what really gets recorded!
Cheers!
