More Alnico 6

I asked the following in an earlier A6 thread and would really appreciate some input:

How do you think A6 (or A4) would do in a Heritage 535 that's currently loaded with Antiquities?

I love the neck pup, but the bridge seems like just a thinner version of the neck. Something with more output and tighter bass might be just the ticket...

Thanks for any thoughts,

Chip

Hello FS,
I think your current A-2 Antiquity’s which are degaussed a little below full charge of 7500 are very close to A-4 (5600) and the A-6 at full is 10500,
That would be close to a slightly degaussed Alnico 5, [Full gauss Alnico 5 is (12500).]

(Br) gauss, a measure of magnetic attraction

HELP: If Jeremy or anyone else has a gauss chart with those smaller number readings, Please post those soon so we can cross referance them with the longer numbered Br gauss readings.

Trust me folks, whatever the gauss-oerstads, I've A/B'd fully charged A5's and A6's and the A6 is stronger no matter how you slice it -- pulling it off the fridge or output in a pickup.

For Fresh Start: I wouldn't recommend A6 for your 535 unless it's a little on the bright side for a semi-hollow.

Are you suggesting that degaussed a2 sounds like full strength a4? I'm having a really hard time buying that...

I'm not buying it either. I've got plenty of both and the A4 is definitely louder. Unless he means tone-wise, i.e., sounds tonally like an A4 but with a lot less output.

Hello Guys'

I have to agree,

I think this is why we really need more gauss reads, with those lower numbers mentioned.

I too am having a problem with these Magnetic properties. The Fridge test does indeed feel to me too that the Alnicos graduate and get stronger from 2 - 8

All I can find are these same higher number (readings) Br measurements all over the internet.

But I cannot find any charts for the lower number readings.
I would really like to find a magnetic attraction chart that uses the two digit readings.

Hello,
Good call;
AlNiCo III magnets which are currently manufactured today will not charge up as much as those manufactured in the 1950's, I was surprised to learn this.

Have you guys also noticed here; Seymour Duncan does not utilize “AlNiCo III's,” Instead AlNiCo II’s an V’s are gassed accordingly and used in place of III’s.

Best Regards
