and for Comparison....Jackson Antigrav Bass: http://www.jcfonline.com/resources/catalogs/2003/images/FullSize/Page42.jpg

OK, they changed it a bit, but I have a feeling the ESPs will still sell better than the Jacksons AG-Series, which has been around since 2003 :(
i have way more respect for jackson than i ever will for esp.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

I really like ESP, but it does look like a ripoff.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

ESP Japan did the same thing with the Alexi Laiho model. It looks just like a Jackson RR series! But I guess that was the intention since it started off as a custom order for him.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

i like my ltd a lot, and i have nothing against esp or jackson, but that does look a lot like a ripoff.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

Its not just ESP ripping off guitars. Chill out a little. ESP is a good company, yes they might use styling ques from other companies, but who doesn't, come on now....

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

personally i think there both pretty ugly.. but thats just my opinion.

but i guess, as they say "imitation is the most sincere form of flattery"

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

then again, nobody is complaining about tokia ripping off gibson.....

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

Here's a question - Why does Jackson offer nearly NO support of their bass line, yet when ESP "rips off" one of their basses, all of a sudden, everyone seems to care? I hung out at the Jackson/Charvel Forums long enough to know that Jackson doesn't give a rat's ass about their basses... I think the grand sum total for all the AntiGrav basses was less than 20. If ESP is going to create a bass that's slightly similar to the AntiGrav piece of crap, LET THEM. What's the worst that could happen? They actually find their way into player's hands?

Jackson short-shrifts their bass playing customers by only offering a couple models at a time and discontinuing the ones they do sell. I would rather buy from ESP, a company that seems to care what I think.

BTW - Jackson historically has ripped most of it's classic models off from other sources as well. Every company that's not Gibson or Fender meets your criteria for "ripoff" so get off ESP's ass.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

Well all ESP guitars ive played where really nice (havent played a jackson though). Companies copy all the time, im not too bothered about that, if its a good bass its a good bass.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

ESP is the mother of stealing other companies guitar shapes... they didnt do anything on their own.. wait, they did.. the devil girl.. >.< i dont need to say anything more, do i?

gibson sued them for using the explorer shape, but then they made it a bit pointier and pretty much screwed up the shape so that it looks just wrong, just to keep selling them

ESP just has the bigger endorsement fund.. so they can afford ripping off other manufacturers, cos people will buy them for the same reason they buy ibanez guitars.. cos well known people play them. doesnt matter if it suits their needs or not and there are a couple of people getting them for themselves, not just cos vai or whoever rips on it

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

EVERY company relies on endorsers. Jackson still relies on endorsers for their business.... they rely on endorsers who were popular in the 1980's, but that doesn't change the fact that half the Jackson fans are trying to cop Randy Rhoads. It's the same thing whether you're trying to be like Randy or Steve Vai or Metallica. There's no guitar company on earth that doesn't rely on endorsers, so stop acting like you're above it.

is bc rich a rip-of company? no

is jackson? no

is esp? yes

jackson stays true to themselves and doesnt follow the bandwagon. im sure their working on a great bass design now.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

To be fair here, it's not easy to create an original design. There are always problems of the guitar not balancing right or fitting a person't body shape comfortably. ESPs guitar has a smoother body and the longer horn doesn't move in or anything. Jackson's has an edgier approach with the longer horn pointing just slightly inward (look at the end). You can argue that they're similar, but they aren't exactly the same. A good bass is a good bass, that's all that matters in the end.

Re: More ESP Ripoffs.....

EVERYBODY ripped off Fender & Gibson. Ok, so a Jackson Soloist, ESP M-II, Ibanez RG, Washburn this, Yamaha that, etc... has a slightly different body shape than a Strat. They all have 2 humbucker models, so they apparently all ripped off Gibson there. Honestly, how much innovation do we really want? If every new company had to come up with a totally different design, we'd end up with some really stupid stuff. Its the same in every business.

As far as the Jackson vs. ESP deal goes, if I could afford either company's high end stuff, I may say differently, but as far as affordable stuff goes, ESP totally blows Jackson away. I know there are good ones to be had from either company, but the cheap ESPs seem to be more consistent, as far as being a cheap guitar that doesn't feel or sound cheap.

every single company except gibson and fender is a rip off company. including jackson. you cant possible say that their main guitar shape is not inspired by the double horns of the strat
