After a dissapointment with my jazz/jb combo in my prs se custom 24, I have got to get another set of duncans exchanged. I found out the hfs bridge pup that came in my prs was a ceramic magnet. I am wondering what seymour has in a ceramic mag, that is comparable, maybe better. The jb/jazz combo sounded very shrill, and way too much high end, almost tinny like a cheap strat. I need to send these pups back within 2 days for exchange. I play eveything from metal to jazz, so i need an all around good pup. The stock pups sounded good, but i have always had the jb combo, and couldnt believe that they didnt work in this guitar. I could really use yer help on getting a fatter low end sound that can clean up well. I am not even close to an expert on pickups, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. this guitar is a mahagony, maple cap, 25 scale, 500k pots. i have the jb/jazz in my ltd ec 500,,,which is mahagony, but has a tone pro bridge, as opposed to a trem on the prs. And i love them in that guitar. But i did block the trem off in the prs!! Thanks a ton in advance!

The PRS is mahogany right? Customs are great in mahogany and have a nice balance to them. They do have a "PAF on steroids" tone and the '59 will suit you if you find the jazz too bright. Plus, with the Custom and 59, those winds are very versatile, if you feel they need an EQ adjustment. You can swap in Alnico 2, 3 or 4 and get various "PAF tones" out of the '59 and you can swap in A5, A8 or A2 magnets in the Custom and get amazing tones from it too. Mag swaps are cheap, easy and create a whole new pickup.

But it also has a trem. I can't imagine a custom's high sounding good in there. I don't know how thick the maple veneer is on a SE, but that's going to brighten it too.

I'm going to suggest a CC/PG(b). Just using my own PRS experiences.

The CC is a good pickup under gain, but it's cleans are pretty weak and "rangy", especially with a vibrato unit.
