More info about these Duncan Design pickups?

I just picked up a used Samick brand "Designed by Greg Bennett" Flying V guitar and I like the tones in the pickups in this guitar. While I haven't been able to find a webpage with specs about this particular guitar, I found a couple mentions on the Samick website that Designed By Duncan pickups were used in some of the models in the Greg Bennett lineup.

So can anyone confirm if the pickups in this Flying V are Designed by Duncan humbuckers?

I am interested in possibly getting another set of these pickups for another guitar of mine (the other one being a Les Paul type). Are Designed Bys based on a production Duncan pickup or do they have their own unique sound?

Thanks

Re: More info about these Duncan Design pickups?

There used to be an official writeup on that on main SD site, but it doesn't seem to exist anymore. Basically they are "import"(=non-US made ) versions of some of the better known models. Hb103 is modeled after the Distortion if I recall well, but cannot remember the rest of the lineup. I'm afraid that theyre only available as OEM though, leaving you with hunting for used ones. The set I had was pretty decent.

I see what you mean about the new Duncan site missing that writeup page. My internet search results indicate there is should be a webpage about this on the Duncan site, but when i click the link, it just brings me to the homepage. Looks like this might be another bug with the recent redesign of the site.

I started searching around and found this. Has some helpful info but not the full picture.

Many old pages haven't made their way into the new site. I've been using the Wayback Machine internet archive to find old pages for now.

Haha, and what is the "wayback machine" exactly? Link?

This is true of some pickups. The HB108 Detonator, for example, is not a direct copy. It has a wind similar to the Distortion, but with Invader polepieces. Also if you are going really low budget, look into the Performer line, they are almost identical to the Duncan Designs but with lower grade components.

I don't know all of the Duncan Design model numbers, but the HB-101s are modeled after the '59 set, while the HB-102s are modeled after the JB/Jazz set.

Yeah, I tried the wayback machine, but it said they did not have a snap**** of that page...:/

Re: More info about these Duncan Design pickups?

If you check the back of the pickup, it should say something like HB103 if it’s a Duncan Designed unit. With that model number, it will be a lot easier to hunt down information on the exact pickups in your guitar. If they’re the same pickups that are in the AV6 you posted those are based on the JB bridge and 59 neck.

I took these pics of the underside of each pup. There were no markings there. I also noted the DCR on each. Based on appearance and DCR readings, do these seem like Designed By Duncan pups?

My Duncan Designed pickups have labels with model numbers

Re: More info about these Duncan Design pickups?

Those aren't Duncan Designed pickups. I don't believe SD uses brass baseplates on any pickups: US or import.

+1 Duncan Design don't use brass bass plates nor do they use red hookup cable. The 4-conductor cable on every Duncan Design I've seen was black, just like typical SDs.

Thanks for helping figure these out (at least, what these pups *aren't*).

Those are some sort of Asian OEM pickup; without identifying marks it'll be difficult to impossible to figure out exactly what they are. The DCR values are within a reasonable margin of error, so I suspect the wind of both pickups is identical.
