i did some more tube swapping yesterday and landed on this setup.
v1: ecc803s (long plate 12ax7) gives me VERY fendery cleans, but that's not a surprise.
gain stage: ecc832 (12dw7) (12ax7/12au7 hybrid) makes the gain much tighter and "musical" to me.
active EQ: i was running a standard ecc83s 12ax7 here, but found the 803s to be much fatter and full sounding with softer highs
PI: standard ecc83s 12ax7. I'm going to get another 803s and try it here too. i also tried a tung sol and found that it had a cocked-wah sound on the crunch channel and a shrill pick attack on the ultra channel.
EDIT: I'm also running JJ 6L6's
