fender hot rod deluxes are simple tube amps. they have 3 12ax7s and 2 6l6gcs.
my amp had been working fine until I plugged into it 2 days ago and got minimal volume out of either the clean or overdrive channels. cranking the volume on the amp only gave me overdrive.
I swap tubes... all of them... same issue.
the amp has the tube sockets soldered onto a pcb (or is it pbc?) board. they are famous for breaking these delicate connections. i take a flashlight and open it up and wiggle each tube a tiny bit to check for any movement. sure enough, the tube farthest from the power tubes has one of the pins loose. i take my soldering iron and fix it.
i turn on my amp and wait a while for it to warm up, grab my mustang thinking the issue is done, and get the same thing. no volume. the tone controls and drive control work fine, but there is no volume from either channel. no other connection seems loose or otherwise bad.
any ideas? the tubes give off a nice yellow/orange glow and do not seem microphonic. no howl from my pre amp and no rubber bands in my power amp.
