Mosky Golden Horse

Got this pedal bundled together with a Wampler Pinnacle distortion pedal (which is nice). I have to say, this little pedal is really NICE sounding. It is a nice boost and has an "in room" sound, heard to explain, but it sounds like the sound is coming from the ROOM and not the amp... Amazing what they can do for $20-40.

Anyone else have these sub-$40 pedals?

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

Securb loves it I believe. I saw a comparison on Tube and was impressed.

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

I just got one a few days ago at the suggestion of someone on the forum, and it is AWESOME, and I don't just mean "for the price"

It stacks so nicely!

i have a bunch (including the golden horse)...lots of great tones in these cheap little guys!

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

I use my Klone as my only source of drive into a dead clean amp (a BYOC Silver Pony I built). Very dynamic gain that I would hate if I had one when I first started playing. I don't use much gain, but I like the sustain and the volume knob dynamics.

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

What are these "Dynamics" of which you speak? I thought the Volume knob was just a rotary "off" switch??? :lmao:

Volume Knob Dynamics? VKD? Is that some kind of physics thing or something???

If you roll your volume knob below 9, your eye makeup immediately starts running

If you even have a tone knob, the glitter on your Spandex won't shine, and touching it will make your hairspray stop working

Dave, you're about to make me start tinkering with DIY pedals, aren't you. AREN'T YOU!!!

I'm already broke enough as it is, you monster!

Well, I tell people, "If I can do it, anyone can". I've built maybe 5 pedals so far, and all sound great, and probably sound better and are made with better components than pedals twice the price. I've only built BYOC ones, though.

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

BYOC?

I just got a Mosky Brown Sound pedal for close to nothing - supposed to be a Wampler Pinnacle copy (which I also have) so I'm gonna A/B test them in a video.

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

Dave, that is very interesting but I don't see the value in those kits. A Phase90 is $70 with the kit and I have to do all that work, or I can buy a used Phase 90 for $75 - $100. Are these heavier-duty components than the original pedals?

As a DIYer, I appreciate the fun in doing a kit, but that looks like a LOT of soldering!

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

I bought a Tone City Bad Horse from a forum bro here and it's the best $30 I've spent on a pedal. Great tone, dynamics and response all across the gain spectrum. Sounds much better than many pedals I've tried in the over $100 range.

I am big on DIY. I was just about to order a BYOC kit when i stumbled across a guy on Etsy who builds pedals for the same or less (including shipping) than it costs to build a kit. FrankTheAnvil FX. I have had him build me 5 or 6 pedals over the past couple years and they were all awesome! If you message him through Etsy he will build just about anything for you, not just the "standard" models he lists in his store. Quick, too: not unusual to have the pedal in hand a week after first contact!
Certainly altered the cost/benefit ratio for me!

Well, you learn how to do something. The components are top-notch. While there is a lot of soldering, there are a lot of mods you can buy or wire into your pedals. They make the pedals like they used to be made, not like the modern versions of those pedals. You don't build your own to save money, though.

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

^ You do if you live anywhere else but the US.

All of those DIY product suppliers are way cheaper than retail where I live, and most secondhand stuff privately for sale in the US is 'no overseas shipping'. There are a couple of ebay sellers who do secondhand pedals and ship internationally....which I've taken advantage of.

Of course now we have the budget pedal suppliers popping up everywhere as an alternative.....but they are using cheap components to make them affordable.

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

I build EVERYTHING myself to save money! Guitars, cables, cars, you name it!! Handy and frugal, that's me. That's why I was happy to find a dude who builds effects for less than the cost of a BYOC kit.

But I'm telling everyone who will listen, FranktheAnvilFX builds seriously good stuff! He's not just cheap and quick, he's GOOD. All the pedals he has built me sound great, look great, and they are quiet as well. He uses good components and you can really tell.

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

This thread has me intrigued. Almost - not quite - but almost pulled the trigger on a Golden Horse for $20 just to experiment. Watched a few vids though. 20 vs 200? Best comment was "If you are in a recording studio and want the absolute best sound...maybe the real thing". Funny he added "maybe" to that...

Re: Mosky Golden Horse

Ha! I've enjoyed the sound of both the Mosky Gh and also this Behringer Tube Screamer clone. Really good sound from such inexpensive tools. The other Behringer pedals I bought are decent too - the Compressor is nice and the Chorus as well. I' on the fence about keeping them (only $29 NEW!!!). I was looking into picking up the Mosky RAT pedal too.
