Most Accurate Tuner?

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

The Peterson gets my vote for rig tuners. For more portable and affordable my Seiko 100 has been great.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

What you like is what you like, but in terms of value for the musician who wants to be perfectly in tune, nothing will get you there like the Strobostomp will.

I think it mainly has to do with what you need it to do.

My Boss sits on the floor and gets pitch fast and isn't so twitchy that I can tune to it quickly and easily.

Is it as accurate? Eh, no. But I don't need it to be that accurate. I've never clicked off the Boss and said "Ya know....it's ALMOST to where it needs to be but not quite."

As far as setups, I'm finding as I get older I have more money and less time so as a result I just hand them off to the shop down the street to do the work.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

Seriously - my guitars sound better and my playing sounds tighter after setting up/tuning with the Strobostomp.

That said, I think the best thing it's done for me is improved my perception of pitch - I can hear things, pitch wise, much better than I could before!

Word up!

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

Boss TU-2 is great for me ... might need more accuracy doing set ups but for general playing ... that pedal is just fine.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

a good ear is the best tuner.

also keep in mind that a fretted instrument can never sound perfectly in tune.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

a good ear is the best tuner.

The reason I got one is that you can mute it and even when all the guys around you are doodling so loud you can't even hear to tune ... or while in the middle of a song ... you can still get tuned. You can also avoid having the crowd listen to you tune. All good things.

I know when I go to hear a band play or a concert ... I don't want to hear everyone tuning either.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

I have the Korg handheld for home, and the Boss TU-2 for stage. Can't beat either of them.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

The Peterson is more than worth the money. I thought I loved the TU-2 but my guitars have never sounded more in-tune since I got the StroboStomp. Its accuracy is phenominal. I'll never plug into anything else again.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

I've used a few different hand-held and pedal tuners from Boss and Korg. Since I am not a perfromer, and I just play around with friends, we usually 1. have one of us tune up with whatever tuner is around, 2. fine-tune their instrument by ear using harmonics, and 3. tune the other instruments to match that one. This way, the notes may not be perfect, but we are in tune with each other. If accuracy is the goal, I can't imagine anything topping a strobe tuner; also, if you are willing to spend, real strobe tuners can get crazy expensive.

What is "sweetened" tuning?

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

The sweetened tuning, accoring to Peterson:

"It turns out that some improvement can, indeed, be achieved. Peterson's proprietary GTR temperament is designed to improve the sound of musical intervals on a standard and "drop tuned" guitar (EADGBE or one half-step below these)—especially the 4th and 5th intervals. This improvement is most noticeable when playing in overdriven mode, where the guitar´s resulting accentuated overtones normally clash when tuned in "standard" Equal temperament. The GTR temperament makes discrete adjustments to Equal temperament which have a positive effect on the overall sound. "

Thats right, after you get one there is no turning back. It is that good.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

Just doing some research on Tuners. I currently have a Korg Chromatic Tuner but I'm wondering if there are any other chromatic tuners out there that tune more accurately? Any BOSS TU-2 owners? Are there any other tuner recommendations?

The Boss TU-12 is an awesome tuner as far as quartz tuners go. I busted my old one, and went out and bought a new one to replace it. It's the tuner I throw in the case when I'm heading out to play. That said, nothing comes close to my Peterson StroboFlip. I intonate every guitar with THAT tuner (as well as my customer's guitars - Forrester Kustoms Guitar Repair & Service). Once the guitar is properly tuned with the Peterson, you're good to go with the Boss TU-12 or the like. A strobe is required to properly intonate your guitar. Once you've heard the difference, you'll wonder why you waited so long.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

I think it really depends on what you're doing with the tuner. If you're doing intonation, especially as part of setups at a business, you're wasting time and money getting anything but a Peterson (or some other strobe tuner). If you're in a band environment where everyone is willing to tune to you a Strobostomp would be great. But if you've got a keyboard or a guy with a double locking trem in your band you're probably going to need to tune to them, anyway. In that case, a $20 tuner to get you close is more than enough.

Re: Most Accurate Tuner?

I`m thinking of picking up the Strobostomp. Does it have to be used in your effects chain or can you use on it`s own?
