Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

I play my les paul like 90% of the time. The other day I was realizing really how annoying it is to play sitting down. Not sure if it is where the cut out is relative to the weight balance but strat style guitars are so much more comfortable to play sitting down. Anyone else?

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

For me, big hollow-bodies feel the most comfortable in the sitting position. Lots of surface area to hold them steady on my leg + forearm.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

I agree. To me a Strat is way more comfortable. The only thing that beats a Strat is a Jazzmaster or Jaguar.

easily a strat. the body shape is really made for comfort, and you can definitely tell sitting down. i don't care about the forearm cut, but the tummy contour is great for me. i'm pretty skinny, and a guitar pressing into my ribs gets old really quickly!

i had a Gibson BFG a while back, and it was the complete opposite unfortunately. really sharp edges on the back (i think they were supposed to be, for an "edgy" look) and they really cut into my rib cage whenever i was sitting down.

I really like my large body semi-hollows to play sitting down. However, not a fan of them while standing or gigging.

A big ol hollowbody.. but I adjust the strap so that when I sit straight up it rests on my lap, and then I can lean back or lean the guitar to the side and keep it at the same distance as if it were on my lap.

strats and lps are comfortable

V's are very uncomfortable but if you put your thigh inbetween the v you can sit with it.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

I have a habit of hunching over my guitar when sitting down, so my 335 is out. The edge of the guitar is always digging into my ribs . . . any guitar with a tummy cut is more comfortable.

Gibson SG.

The body is barely even there.

This is true. Very comfy.

Another one I enjoy is the PRS shape. It just sits nicely there, with the weight well centered. Just a good feel.

Honorable mention to my friend's ES339, which is big, but just the right size to fit under your arm, and just chill there.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

when I am sitting down I use a headless Hohner (Steinberger), its great so sitting down and learning stuff, but it does sound like crap unless its got actives in it which help it somewhat.

Re: Most comfortable guitar to play sitting down

my LTD ex-351. its really neck-heavy, which makes for a great balance when its sitting over your leg. on guitars that have great balance standing up, such as my gibson explorer, the tail-end of the body tends to be too heavy to sit on your leg perfectly. kinda wants to lean off to your side

Hollowbody jazz guitar. Full hollow, not some fake with a block down the middle, i'm talking the real, inches deep hollowbody jazz guitar. Such perfect proportions for that.
