Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

What guitars did you lust after back in the day and now think are so bad that you must have been on something.
Mine is the Kramer Enterprize I thought these things were great I think it's a bit cheesy now.

Well, these are by no means bad, but it's the kind of crush that's embarassing, and won't happen.

Kramer Focus 6000 (typical import superstrat of the those days)...in candy red, and I can still see it sitting in the store front window in my mind.

It's not embarassing because of the make/model, but because of the quality...I know better these days.

I wanted an Ibanez Destroyer like Phil Collen's soon after Pyromania came out, but now realize you can't avoid looking like a Def Lep fanboy using one.

I actually had one of these for a while:

Natural finish. Good guitar, but what was I thinking?

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

A guitar with only 22 frets and no Floyd. Geez, what was I smoking?

You're like the mirror universe version of me.

I used to want an RG. Like, so badly. Y'know, sometimes I think back on that day, remember the lust in my heart and just...

Actually, I'd probably still play one, they are kinda cool.

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

I used to want a Rickenbacker 360 in FireGlo, like real bad.

In 1996, I chose my (now a member of the family) American Standard Stratocaster over a Rickenbacker like this. I wonder how different my life would have been if I had had this beast all through college and my peak band / gigging years.

That is interesting, I really wanted a Fender Jaguar about 15 years ago just like Blixa Bargeld who is one of my favourite players, I even went out to buy one but the one in the store had a chunk out of the finish (like it had been hit with an axe) and it just wasn't a good guitar. I kept looking and went into Macari's in London (where Clapton, Beck and Page got their '59's from back in the 60's) and asked if they had a Jaguar, they didn't but on a whim I tried the four pick up Godin LG they had in black. They let me play it for over an hour but I still wasn't sure I went home to think about it and next day got the Godin which I used as my main guitar for a good ten years and sill use a lot for session work as it covers a lot of ground sound wise.

The ESP Jeune Fille X. It's one of their $8,000 Custom Shop Artist models.

I don't play gothic doom metal so I really wouldn't look right with this thing, but I've always wanted one.

At 46 I would NOT be too embarrassed to play this at all.... awesome!

Mine was a Palm Bay Tidal wave .... I think.

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

actually, the one I have now. After being a huge Scorps and Smashing Pumpkins fan, when I sold my cheapo strat I *HAD* to have a Gibson Flying V. Got a great deal on mine because it was painted in this hideous purple-and-white wave design and NOTHING was original save the wood itself, and I played it as it was for a few years, but now want something that fits me more. I have it torn down now, has been for about a year, with the intent to refinish and sell it, but when I dissasembled and stripped it, found several different crappy paint jobs, a decal kit, the floyd posts are splitting out, all kinds of crazy shiz. Am not even sure it's worth saving at this point, may just Craigslist it as is for like $50 and lick my wounds.

But back in the day I had a serious hankerin' for a Steinberger. Still a cool idea, just ugly as sin.

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

I got 1 for the present -
Jessie Sammler's butterfly guitar looks pretty cool (except for the pink pups)
I would probably give it to my niece though...

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

Oh my, bit of a list this.
Hamer Scarab... black with red splotches, Ibanez Jem, desert yellow of floral pattern, Ibanez DT250 in trans red... all of it, even the maple fretbaord. Just so much trans red you needed a red jump suit to play one or you'd look stupid... ehm.
Really all of the mad coloured crazy things from the eighties I wanted so bad that it hurt.
Eventually I ended up with a turquoise charvel spectrum (reverse headstock, bit like the Jackson Beck used on Flash) after a candy red Destroyer. These days my tastes are a little more sane... well apart from the gold tokai explorer I had the other year :)

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

I think I'm more embarrased about some of the tones I actually used to like.

But cannot really say I'm embarrased about ever liking anything. My tastes may have changed over the years, or even changed and gone back, but in the end, who cares?

Ok...waitaminutejustthoughtofsomethin.....flame paint jobs..yeah..that I'm embarrased about- my first real guitar had a flame paint job

Re: Most Embarrassing Guitar Crush

A bright green Ibanez RG that the local shop in Florida had at the time, so glad I never did that to myself tho.... I bought a black one with a Floyd instead
