Most of the 'lectrics

Re: Most of the 'lectrics

Very nice collection, not a million miles away from mine, how's the teardrop?
I've never even seen one let alone played one

Re: Most of the 'lectrics

The Teardrop is super cool, made by Phantom Guitar Works out of Oregon. It is a really solid guitar not gimmicky like you might think. Pickups are excellent and it plays! Trem stays in tune well and it is really comfortable too. The zero-fret has worn a groove where the A string sits that is a little annoying, and the bridge saddles tend to collapse like my old Jaguar's did but I have worked around those things so far.

I haven't come across any other Phantom versions but I've played a few others including some old Vox's, I was kind of psyched when I found it.

What in God's name is that pointy thing in the middle? (I want one now!)
Great collection, I love seeing "eclectic" lineups like this, instead of the usual suspects.

It's got to be of Teisco heritage. My first electric had those very same pickups. Still got it somewhere, albeit in pieces.

Thanks! The swept wing was made in the old Teisco factory somewhere around '68 best I can figure, made for the Heit Deluxe brand. Heit went out of business after only a couple of years. I saw it and had to have it. It's got a bunch of issues but sounds wicked with a slide. There weren't very many of them made fwiw.

I like buying and selling guitars so my "collection" rarely looks he same 2x but I like this group a lot, there aren't any in danger of leaving anytime soon I don't think. Missing from the pic is a late fifties Guild X-55 and a Heritage H170. Didn't figure on including a few I have for sale or my bass.

Dude, you should ALWAYS include the ones you have for sale, along with a mention of that fact!

And why no love for the bass?

And what is this 'selling' thing you speak of?

I always tell one when I buy it, 'you can fret out any time you like, but you can never leave'.

Well the bass is down at my friend's studio right now for some recording his band is doing. It's a Carlo Robelli 8-string that is pretty hip in a Cheap Trick kind of way, Sam Ash definitely didn't do as well with these as they could have.

What do you think of the Gretsch? I almost bought the exact same model the other day but thought I'd better hold off & finish paying for the stuff I bought last month!!!

Re: Most of the 'lectrics

The Gretsch is good, I still need to finish dialing it in. It needs a little bit of work on the fret ends and the nut. It was fine with 9's but 10's totally have the nut hanging up.

Gretsch make it sound like they're some top of the line "trons in it but they seem very blah to me. I put in a TV Jones T-series in the bridge and it made a nice difference, I'll do the neck at some point too. I'll probably re-wire it completely at some point because the country of origin seemed to show itself in the electronics.

I got a great deal on it but I probably should've bought a used one and saved a few bucks since I'm going to do so much to it.

Beautiful guitar though and it is built very well otherwise.

Re: Most of the 'lectrics

What amps are you using these days?

Oranges - AD30HTC and a Dual Terror mostly run them thru a custom 4-10 I had built a while back, I use an old Peavey 412MS cab that I love as well. I have a Micro Terror and a Lil Night Train as well both are pretty fun little amps.

Re: Most of the 'lectrics

The black one is yes, it's a Trad Pro. Killer guitar! It has a really cool midrange sort of honk to it that I never got out of any other guitar before. It had decent stock pups but I changed them out to a 59n and an old L500 in the bridge and ditched the p/p pots.
