Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

Diminished Triad

Of all the Fender amps available today (re-issues, etc), what produces the best vintage and rock sound? I have an EC, Supersonic and Vibroking, and looking for one more Fender best suited for 60's and 70's jams. To be used mostly by strats and maybe PRS at times. Looking at '65 Twin Custom and '65 Twin Reverb at the moment. Appreciate any thoughts and recommendations!

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

to me besides the little sweet tone fender amps-princeton, blues delux ext.....I think the most desirable Fenders are the Black Face Twins, Black Face or earlier Bassmans, silver face or earlier Deluxe Reverb. To be honest, I really like the Pro Reverb-Black Face-its just right to push volume and its a very sweet sounding amp platform. Others will swear by old Bandmasters because they love the "sweet sag tone" it has but its attack is not as immediate as per say...a twin or bassman and you may find yourself trying to compress the tone to get more attack.
If you want versatility I would pick up an old Dual Showman. Its basically just a twin head that you can run different cabs with like 2x15, 2x12, 4x10. It has a good tone and alot of tone options and they are not outrages to buy ether.

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

Sounds like you already have one of the top ones (The VK). I could be tempted into buying one right now with the right incentive. I have a few nice vintage pieces, including a '66 Vibrolux Reverb. I've got a Bassman RI that's been gutted and PTP board installed - its as good IMO as the Vibrolux.

Oddly enough a combo I thought I'd hate together turned out to be one I like a lot - An EC Champ halfway up with a PRS McCarty, goosed by a Bogner Blue. A little reverb/Delay for ambience, hence the champ being up only halfway.

After you own a Vibro-King, isn't everything else inferior? I would hope that a $3000+ amp could get you the tone you're looking for.

I would think a SF anything is better than most.
That said...Blues Jr and a HRDlx cover a lot of ground.
best

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

believe it or not the thickest and most natural sounding overdriven fenders on the market right now are the Fender Devilles In my opinion... 4x10 USA Deville is a beast! I have never heard such a big sound on stage then a cranked Deville..There is a reason big players like the guitarist from Coldplay still use them when they are stadium players

Have you played the new machete ? I played in at low volume at the shop and it sounded pretty good

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

In the Gospel world I know alot of my friends love Fender twins and PRS or Strats or Teles. My one friend Chris has an original 65 Black face Twin.

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

First off, "60's and 70's jams" isn't much to go on when recommending an amp.

Second, wow ... you already have three seriously excellent, and varied, Fender amps. If you can't get the tone you want from those, I honestly don't think the amp is the problem.

Unless the amp itself needs a little attitude adjustme... err maintenance.

Sounds like a lot of the "Grass is greener" syndrome on part of the OP here.

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

For what you describe in your needs I would go with a Super Reverb. If the weight is an issue a pro would do nicely. I have a 68 super and a Deluxe Reverb. The DR is one of my go to amps as I play in small venues and the volume becomes an issue. All the amps I have listed take pedals very well and with the volume on 5 they crank well on they're own

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

My favorite Fender models at this time are the Princeton Reverb reissue and the Deluxe Reverb reissue.

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

Jeez from what you already have, I take it your are not afraid to drop some bread on an amp. Get a Silver or Black face over a Reissue anything. The reissues don't sound like the vintage stuff.

Re: Most Preferred Fender Amp Available Today?

Honestly, I've played quite a few of Fender's new production amp and I've yet to find one that matches the magic of my 68 Bassman.
