Re: Most used pups for jazz?
When I think of great jazz guitar tone I think of Wes Montgomery. He used early 60's alnico 5 Gibson humbuckers. I think Gibsons are actually the most used pickups for the jazz I think of: Wes, Joe Pass, Johnny Smith, Kenny Burrell, George Benson before he switched to Ibanez, etc. If I had a single pickup jazz guitar cut for a neck humbucker I'd probably put a 59N in it...similar to the pickup Wes and Joe Pass used in thier L-5 and ES-175 guitars, but Duncan underwinds it a bit for a clearer tone and a little less output than the 8K pickups those guys used. I actually love the 59N in a single pickup guitar like that. I only need to go to a Duncan Jazz neck or Seth Lover or Antqiuity neck in some two humbucker guitars...for balance and less bass from the neck pickup compared to the bridge pickup. If all I'm going for is clean tones in a guitar with a single neck pickup and no bridge pickup, a 59N works beautifully. Lew
