Most useful fuzz pedal?

I have a DIY fuzz clone thats pretty cool but even at full pedal volume it doesn't really cut through much and theres a slight drop in volume.
I'm looking for a fuzz that at lower settings can do the lead tone in bold as love , but still be able to get into some weird neil young/wilco territory.

The Home Brew Electronics "UFO" Ultimate Fuzz/Octave pedal does it ALL! To me, there are two general types off fuzz tone: early/nasty/splatty, and the later/creamy/compressed tone.

I went on a fuzz-quest recently, and got this one:

I've yet to find a fuzz that really struck me as versatile. They (almost) all seem to be really good at doing one or two things but each seems to have such a distinct voice that it would be very difficult for me to use one to cop the tones of another.

just started doing it myself lately and will never look back :smokin:

I have and dig the Russian Big Muff. I used to have a Vintage Rat that did a great fuzz at full gain. It was fuzz that cut through because the pick strike was still articulate, instead of real mushy like the Big Muff. Now I just run a Tube Screamer in front of the Big Muff for versatility.

It all depands on what kind of fuzz tone you are looking for...I have several boxes that are true Fuzzes...

-tweak fuzz (great for the money, very tweakable)
-axis fuzz (gret unit but not easy to use, hard to control, not for the faint of heart)
-ultimate octave (bought for the octave feature but it quickly has becomre my fav Fuzz...I love it!)
-big muff (have had close to a dozen of them, classic tone but not for everybody)

See, it just depends what you want...

What's the difference between fuzz and overdrive? I know the diff between OD and distortion...

my understanding of Fuzz is that: its decidedly square wave, and has a very heavy leaning towards harmonic emphasis. Kinda like superimposing a square wave onto your guitar wave.

I have a nasty Boss HyperFuzz and it will not let me play more than the root and the fifth together (and maybe a third) Otherwise it becomes a disonant mess. A savage effect! Also no "blending in / strength" option. Not versatile, but fun.

Is there anyone here that has a good thing to say about the Fender Blender Fuzz !??

I am looking into one, as the MF site's clip sounded very nice, and i like the idea of a blend knob !

(Temporary Hijack) :guilty: :nervous: You know, I can't stand "fuzz" pedals. They're usually so overwhelming to the guitar's tone. They morph everything into a square waved beehive. BUT, I dig Blues Saraceno's solo tones, so I was wondering, has anyone tried the Tweak Fuzz as a real mild square wave "overdrive pedal" in front of the half-grit tube amp? I've always been a TSx/SD-1 pedal guy, and recently I added the Boss DS-1 for some fun crunch, instead of the smooth overdrive of the TSx/SD-1. Can the Tweak Fuzz obtain that kind of chunk when put in front? In all my years, and all my gear, I've literally never tried a fuzz like that, because I hate them. Yeah, I'm an anti-fuzzite I guess.

The soundclips of the TweakFuzz tell me that in the lower settings with lower gain, it's kind of a better version of the DS-1. It's still a little woolier, but since we've got all the fuzz nerds in this topic, I thought I'd ask here.

(Resume non-hijacked response) ledzepp29 it does seem like the Tweak Fuzz would do the job. You're asking for a fuzz with somewhat of a dual nature, both Hendrixy AND all out fuzz mayhem. I think that Tweak Fuzz it probably one of the pedals that can do it.

I liked the Tweak Fuzz, but found it tooooo mellow. From my corner of the world (it is a small corner), the Tweak Fuzz was excellent at bringing up a vintage Rock tone out of a generic solid-state clean channel amp. That is no small feat.

Olin, I hope you are getting around to liking the Home Brew UFO! I love the quietness of mine! It is the most quiet OD/Dist/Fuzz/EQ pedal I have ever owned, and it sure has a lot of gain and diff tones on tap. I realize you are a working musician, so any opinions you may form are certainly valid to my ears!
