Most versatile guitar

Re: Most versatile guitar

I never completely understand threads like this. When you start ranking guitars according to versatility, what does it mean to say that a Tele is more versatile than a Les Paul, or that an SG is more versatile than a Strat? Or whatever. Are we making assumptions about the features and specs, here? Like the pickups, woods, construction, electronics, switching, bridge, etc.?

Personally, the kind of versatility that interests me doesn't come from a control array like that crazy B.C. Rich. It comes from versatility in the player, in the ability to listen and respond to the guitar, the pickups, the amp, and dial in a tone that works for what you're playing. The way I see it, the ability to do this, and the willingness to experiment, trump features every time.

I can dig where your coming from .

I can also dig when you get more from one guitar than others get too . Versatility = contrasts .

This helps in getting from one " feel " to another IMHO .

I kinda like Satriani's sound , can't reproduce his sound but I can get something that pleases me a lot . Satana's - Johnny Winter - Jimi - Jimmy P - and other cool tones .

This is not an endorsement to be a cover song/player either .

It is a way though for some to get what pleases them with out getting tons of guitars :omg: . I know some guys like doing that and that's cool who wouldn't , I'm just not in that category or can/could afford to be .

Easy man , appreciated you point of view too .

Re: Most versatile guitar

True I have contemplated putting a tremolo whammy on mine many times to get that " ultimate versatility " , but I can't mess this guitar's looks it is so sexy heh heh heh .

Wow your is a AAAA grade , I was not aware they had that grade level , must be super dooper special crazy good .

I am not a tremolo player. My experience was sloppy bends and strings that would always seem to stretch just enough to go out of tune. I think it would be cool to get into some of the EVH type uses, but it has not been an issue.

You are right, mine is an AAA. I did not even realize it had such a nice top when I purchased. I also did not see the natural binding. The quality of finish in the upper end Godins is as good or better than any other maker. Mine is dyed a very deep blue so it has to be in bright light to really see the figuring in the maple top. When I purchased the guitar, I was originally at the shop to buy a Gibson Les Paul Custom. My Godin was just a better guitar than that LPC in sound, playability and feel and I had to bring it home instead of the Gibson.

Re: Most versatile guitar

Tele/Esquire
Les Paul Junior/Special
Les Paul Standard/Custom
Strat
335/345/355
SG

...have all stayed around for a reason. They're all extremely versatile guitars, and you need that to have commercial success with a guitar model over that many decades IMO. I think the Les Paul is by far the least versatile of those that I mentioned...but it's still a versatile guitar.

This.

Want an acoustic guitar in the mix? Can't go wrong with a Martin D-18 or D-28.

Yep less is best on the tremolo stuff , but when done right it's dreamy .

Yeah this stuff on these Godins if they are 2004 0r older have the best tops of the Godins and compete as you mentioned with the best bar none .

I did a 4 year plus search for my " ideal " first electric guitar . I auditioned them all . The Godins were untouchable in quality - workmanship - playability, out of the case - I know I'm getting another one too .

Firebird X

:bling::D

Was at GC in San Bernardino a few months back and listened to one fired up Firebird guitar player work out his new 3 mini humbucker with the maestro trem.

I have to agree that this guitar is one of the most versatile I have ever heard .

I want a Firebird with a Candy apple red finish . So sexy :)

Re: Most versatile guitar

Those things are very expensive... unfortunately :'(

But they seem to have WAY too many feautures. So i can't call it expensive it is worth the money. Is simply out of my budget, and i couldn't spend 5000$ on a guitar.

Pawn shops and guys who were / are wanna bees are great sources for great guitars and cheap prices .

Some guys are nailing new Gibson's at unreal prices at places like Best Buys because some of the Best Buy stores just could not establish a market to sell too there in certain stores .

The deals are out there you have to be patient and have your eyes open and be ready with the cash , so save up man like everyone us had too heh heh heh .

It's a question of timing , just like a good song man that's all :)

Re: Most versatile guitar

If i saved enough for a Firebird X i would more likely buy something like Gibson LP Supreme, or the 'Blackwater' Chad Kroeger Les Paul (i know im gonna get **** for even mentioning Nickelback, I dont like/listen to them, but that guitar is stunning!). Im a sucker for flame/quilt maple tops.

Of course you would. Or a Historic for the same money. NO one is buying the Firebird X. GCs are sending them back to Gibson in droves. Ill conceived product. I LIKE buying effects pedals. I don't want them in my guitar.

Re: Most versatile guitar

The pedal comment, EXACTLY ! :D

Traditional guitars with small twists, i would go as far as the Epi LP Ultra III, are cool.

Re: Most versatile guitar

Can't believe no one has said Hagstrom Super Swede... affordable, Les Paul-like solid body mahogony with maple cap, Strat length neck scale, coil splitting. You can do Les Paul stuff or Strat stuff. Nothing can do the Tele twang except a Tele imo, and a Tele will never sound like a les paul... I think the Super Swede is a good middle of the road affordable compromise...

Re: Most versatile guitar

The regular swede i believe just has a high pass filter I think... correct me if i'm wrong swede owners... that's why i opted for the super with the coil split, i was a strat player and wanted a good transition into a les paul style guitar. For the money it's a great guitar, chinese or not. very versatile. can't EXACTLY get that well known strat sound but it comes darn close for a heavy mahogony bodied guitar...

Re: Most versatile guitar

Cause to me the Swede looks much better then the Super Swede. The body on the Super Swede looks disproportional.

Re: Most versatile guitar

mmm... yeah if you've got an image of a les paul ingrained in your eyeballs then the super swede might look disproportional. :sword:

I've got one and in real life it doesn't look or feel wrong at all. 3/4 of an inch isn't too big of a difference looks-wise.. feel-wise it slightly feels different yes. I would say the body is a bit bigger than a les paul. though the cutout is too small and makes access to the upper frets pretty hard, and frets are too soft. those are my only complaints... if you have any other questions you should probably PM me

Re: Most versatile guitar

If it were up to me I'd build this as a "can do anything" guitar.

Alder body / Maple Top
Maple Neck / Ebony board
22 Frets
Neck - Pearly Gates / 4 Conductor
Middle - Vintage Staggered
Bridge - A2P
Controls - Vol / Tone / Mini Three Way for Series/Parallel/Split for the PG / 5 way switch (N, N+M, M, M+B, B)

You are going to love my home build when it's done!!!
