Title says it all really. I've become really fed up with my Marshall JTM 60 and want something new. I rely on a lot of pedals for a wide variety of sounds. I want something that will do everything well. What do you think?

Definately want to stay with valves, when I say versatility I refer more to adapting to different styles. I want to be able to play a lot of clean stuff, I mean really clean. I finger pick as if I was playing an acoustic a lot. Basically so I play arpeggios with no break up what-so-ever. Then still be able to play high gain power chords as well.

I would also say modelling for something truly diverse...but versatility doesn't always equate to best sounding
I have a vetta 2 and it's got more stuff in it than I know what to do with, but if I thought it was the best sounding amp ever, I wouldn't have bought a tube amp..
anywho, Randall makes tube amps now if you didn't already know..and they have what are called modules...it's not a modelling amp...not in a digital sense...it has pre amp modules that are voiced differently and you can mix and match..I think they have one that holds up to three modules..they have ones based on rectos and marshalls and whatnot...
you physically take the modules out and swap them if you want to...
now that's pretty versatile....and without the 'almost there, but not quite' sound that digital modeling amps seem to suffer from

I play a VH-4 every week @ rehearsal; it's not as versatile as the Rivera. Why do you say it is? It DOES have a ton of switching options, which I love, but sonically, it only does one sound. Even the clean channel is like an 'underamped' version of the distorted channels.RGN said:

I am into my third week with a VH-4, playing it almost daily. I think the clean channel is excellent. If has far more than one sound and it isn't "british" sounding. By adjusting the EQ and bright switch you can get a lot of different sounds. Channel 2 is really amazing. It can do a nice mild blues disortion to AC/DC or so. Probably the biggest surprise is Ch 2. Ch 3 is the what Diezel is all about IMO and Ch 4 is just a full blown lead channel with a little more compression and gain.
I haven't ever played Rivera really. I hear they have great clean channels also. The VH-4 with a G-Force can do anymost anything I'd ever need instantly, with one step on my MIDI controller.
