Movie of me playing with myself ...

Re: Movie of me playing with myself ...

Nice, really good tone, I like the slide electric, what kinda effects are you running?

Thanks, smilemon ... I just go through my little RP-100 for these. It's factory setting number 3, about the only nice one in the damn thing. I added some reverb in Adobe Audition. I also use very heavy strings and a heavy slide ... adds a lot to the sound.

Thanks for your feedback! :)

I love the tone, I dig the video...your tunes are always great.

I feel good now :) Thanks for sharing!

always a treat to hear you playing...and now I can watch as well. :)

That's a mighty flat fretboard for a Strat. Is it custom made?

No, Marin, it's a normal Strat. I bought it in London in 1973 and it was already old then. I was that baboon's ass pink, which I hated, so I stripped it back and that's when the Fender decal disappeared.

I've told the story here before, but when I bought it at Fender Soundhouse, the salesman said to me "that's a nice guitar ... if you want anything changed in the set-up, go ask Seymour ... he's the best" and that's when I met Seymour Duncan who was working there. We were both kids and he we formed a band with another friend. We did one gig in Frankfurt Germany.

Re: Movie of me playing with myself ...

Brilliant work. You really have some great left hand slide technique. I noticed you're using the slide on your pinkie, which is how I've always done it, because having the extra fingers to add melody is key, and you've got it down to a T.

I really like your melodic ideas in that piece. The way you approached it with that tone is really nice. My only minor nitpick is that I'd like to hear more separation between the two instruments, with a more dialed in panning, so they don't fight for any frequencies.....especially since they're both fingerpicked and in a warm range. Nonetheless, it's inspiring playing....some of the horn like stuff are things I really want to delve into.

There are a few players on this forum I truly believe could make a living being professional guitarists. Not the "sleep-in-your-car-play-in-bars" type of living, but the Favored Nations record deal, touring with Steve Vai type of artist. I believe Kirk is one of those guitarists...

Inspiring work...

Very well done.

I loved the song. You get such a good intonation with a slide. How did you practice playing slide to be able to keep your intonation, vibrato and muting this good? I'm very curious.

Very soulful. Way to go! Fantastic.

Thanks Butch, that's very kind of you to say so. I have in fact been playing professionally for decades now, but in Australia ... so ... need I say more? I moved here from Canada in 75, and despite the downside of being so far away from the 'real' world of music, it's well worth it. It's the last bastion of sanity in many ways, and a lot warmer than my hometown, Montreal.
