Mr. Scary playing Tom Holmes pups?

On the Fan Talk forum on georgelynch.com, there's talk that the mystery pup in his ESP MI tiger is a Tom Holmes pup. Holmes used to work in the Gibson custom shop. He created a pup that tone-wise, is an exact copy of an original Gibson PAF. Under the silver cover lies an ultra-LOW output pup. The amp has to work harder to get sound out of the pup. I hear that these typically go for $500 a set new! With the new pup and Mojave amps, his tone is supposedly the best it's ever been! We'll see in early 05' how the signature George Lynch Peavey Brahma amp figures into all of this...

I'm thinking about actually putting my new amp desires on hold for that Brahma, I can relate to the name anywho haha. But we'll see, I'm going to see if I can get another good amp before that time arrives. I hope it'll be less or sorta be in the pricerange of the JSX.

BTW 7th, how does that Soldano of yours work for high gain?

I have a set of the Tom Holmes alnico 2 humbuckers in my Les Paul. Thank goodness I ordered them years ago before they went up to $500 a set! They are great pickups...but not underpowered. Just very, very vintage sounding. Ballsy as all get out. Reminds me of the tones I heard from Jeff Beck's Les Paul on the Truth album. Billy Gibbons is supposed to really like the Tom Holmes humbuckers too, at least according to Tom. Tom Holmes makes these great pickups, but he told me he doesn't even know how to play the guitar! Isn't that funny? I don't think Joe Barden plays the guitar either...just loves listening to great guitar players. Lew

I've heard some pretty strange things about the new Peavey Lynch Brahma. It's a single channel ptp vintage-style amp. Think Marshall Plexi type tone. Something really weird (to me, at least) is that it won't have a master volume! If it's anything like a real Plexi, you're gonna have to CRANK IT to get those nice crunch tones. Warn the neighborhood beforehand!

I'v tried the JSX and was a little disappointed. To my ears, it sounded like a de-tuned XXX. More tamer and not as high-gain. This makes sense, because Satch uses all sorts of pedals to acheive his tone. A super-high gain amp would turn to mud with all thoses pedals on the frontend.

My Torres Engineering modded Soldano does the dirty-crunch thing pretty well. Is this the elusive "Brown Sound" that EVH is always describing? I still have to use my trusty Tech 21 XXL pedal to get those super-high gain "Satan" tones, but I'm pretty happy with the amp.
