Multitrack recorders

I've just started looking at second hand digital multitracks on ebay but it's become very quickly daunting.

Some of these multitracks are recorded to zip drives, via usb, compact flash cards, etc etc.

I could really use some simple advice on the specs I should be looking for on these multitracks.

Ideally I need to record 2 guitars - bass - drums.

I think i'm gonna need it to be an 8 track - as I understand it that gives me another 4 voicings for anything I want to layer on top.

I guess I just want an 8 track that will record those 4 instruments and be easily transferred to say a computer - to mp3 - etc etc.

Absolutely any advice on this subject would be greatly appreciated, i'm looking to spend around £100 used on ebay (roughly $200).

Thanks.

Re: Multitrack recorders

if you want to keep the price down it might be a better idea to use a usb audio device and just record multi track directly on a computer. Do you need to be able to record all 8 tracks at once?

Re: Multitrack recorders

Sadly when we get together to practice/jam we have to book a hall out, I wont be near a computer at the time.

I guess I only really need 4 tracks to be running at the same time - 2 x guitar - 1 bass - 1 drums mic.

But maybe I have the term track missinterpreted, i'm new to all this.

Anyone at all?

There are a few multitracks ending on the bay tommorow so any advice would be real useful to me.
