Band I started a while ago with the intention of writting alternative music.



any constructive critisicm on the solo would be greatly appreciated.

The solo fits its current place, but I don't feel that place belongs. It's a nice solo, but I feel a solo in the faster part with the same bendnote style in a faster tempo would have worked out very well. This works for where it is; I just don't like the place it's over.

I enjoyed that! You wanted Alt and you nailed it. I think the solo was my favorite part; really melodic and I think it fit perfectly with the rhythm guitar. I liked how it resolved, too. Very nice.

Astro; I'm just a 16 year old kid. My opinion, contrary to my own belief, is NOT that important! I wasn't referring to the solo's speed; I was referring to the rest of the song! I just wasn't particular to that slow part, but the solo fit very well where it was. If it makes any sense, don't change the solo; it's fine.

Coming into this section of the forum is really nice; All the new music I hear about is that Modern Metal stuff from my little brother. Right now apparently some guy went to jail and got angry that his band wasn't willing to let him return, so he made a new band and an entire album where the lyrics centralize on how he doesn't need them and he's better than them, anyway. Disappointing to see a musician do that kind of stuff; seeing this music is refreshing and it, sadly to say, builds on my hope for the future of music.

This is a great piece, man. I think the solo is has great potential and the piece on whole is alt and progressive as well. The only critisizm I'd have is that the drummer's ride cymbal sounds more like a crash and dominates the sound whenever he's riding on it, and practice putting more feel into the solo. The notes are fine, but it sounds like you're just playing notes and not "feeling" them. I love the music and can't wait to hear what else you guys can produce. It's a really good start, man.

I liked most of the solo section, it sounded decent. If you want me to be very critical, two spots stuck out as needing just a little more of something . . . the slow, held single notes between about 3:47 and 4:03, and from about 4:14 to the end of the song. Both of these sections were just a little too laid back, and (to me) it felt like they could use something, more vibrato, a few more notes, slightly different phrasing, more space, just something to spice them up a bit. Song sounds pretty cool overall. Do you have lyrics for it?

Nah, I wrote and recorded this the day I posted it here. I need to get to work on it but there are other songs my band is rehearsing that need lyrics first.

dig that main riff. cymbals are a bit overpowering, making me strain a bit to catch all the nuances of the guitars.

It shows.

At the risk of stating the very, very obvious, human drummers are only four note polyphonic. Any motif requiring two-handed stick work immediately reduces the hi-hat cymbals to pedal operation only.

Some of your MIDI drum programming would tax three Neil Pearts to perform live in real time. IMO, the greatest aid to realistic drum programming is a pair of drumsticks.

The guitar solo section seems like a separate composition from everything that went before it. I would be inclined to try and work out harmony guitar parts for the first guitar line. You could end up with a cross between Tom Sholtz and Brian May. Also, since the melody is meant to be the featured portion of the music, the accompanying guitar parts could do with being less fussy.

Thanks Funk. I like that Brian May Idea. I was jamming on this song today and halfway through the solo section I ended up stepping on my wah pedal for some reason... got Slash-y. I think Ill demo this song again soon.

and of course: this is my home demo. on the more "final" thing we're going to have actual tracked drums with an actual drummer, my bassist playing bass instead of me, etc.

Less Fuzziness. I fear I may have gone too far. The solo tone is a fuzz face. does it show?

Not fuzziness. Fussiness. Too busy.

So much going on in the rhythm guitar parts that it detracts from the lead guitar.

I think its real good and want to hear more from you guys! As far as the solo, very tasty! The wanna be wanker in me says you could put a few extra flurries of notes in there where some of the holds are and it would be cool.. BUT.. I like the space you have in it. Alot of the best solos are that way cuz of whats not played. Id also suggest maybe doubling or adding some delay to one part of the solo (like the beginning) just to break it up and suck the listener in more, then go to your section with long bends and such. nice work!

IMO, just bass would be going too far in the other direction. (Unless it were some monumental Taurus pedal throbbing drone.)

My point was that, at 3:52, the chording guitars get in the way of the melody - especially if you do decide to harmonise with yourself. The plain block chords work. So would Hammond Organ.

One final thought. Does your bassist play fretless at all? I think that it would help the solo section.

As a matter of fact... he does!

I meant to say just bass with a ProCo Rat or a Big Muff Or something going on.

Hey cool stuff man, it's great to see that people are still able to write a good melody out there. The solo is nice but could use a little more... confidence? Play it like you mean it bro!
