I have a 112RD-100-EVM, and I use it for the one thing that it does well- loud and clean. For the other stuff, I switch to Boogie.

HamerPlyr,
Indeed! Then use your favorite floor device for the sustain and presto...killer amp!

There is a recording artist/touring bluesman named Tab Benoit who uses a Music Man amp. He used a Matchless for a while, but when he changed tubes, it did not sound the same to him.
He then switched back to his Music Man! Tab does play relatively clean blues but Tab Benoit smokes at it!!! See him in concert if you can! :fing2:

Re: Music Man Amp - The Holy Grail

this guy at my school was given a 212 combo version of that amp from a teacher. the teacher said the amp had been in a closet at the school since the 70s. it could use new power tubes but it isnt a bad amp at all. nothing to get excited about.

Clint_41,
I love those stories! What luck, as that is a really nice gift! Thanks for sharing.

Phaser, tremolo, SS/12AX7, whatever...I just can't get excited about these amps. Especially for 2000 bucks (which could buy you a Hiwatt).

ES350,
Yeah...but you do not get the beautiful oak amp shell and great sounding oak cabinets with 4 vintage EV series-II 12 inch shallow cone speakers!
If you read the guys auction, (long as all heck, but very descriptive and thorough), his MM amp is a test bench amp. I know for a fact those are great built amps, as a friend of mine has a test bench Fender super champ. One is blessed to get a test bench amp.

I guess not everyone here appreciates Music Man amps, but I think Leo Fender and crew did a wonderful job designing the Music Man line. I would choose a Music man over a Marshall any day for reliability and long life.

If I lived closer to Michigan, I would probably buy that old sweetheart! :fing2:

Re: Music Man Amp - The Holy Grail

Dude, the cabs will actually kill the tone. There's a reason why no one else builds oak cabs.

I'd rather go with a pair of Carvin 13 ply baltic birch cabs.

Everytime I've seen Tab he was breaking strings through a Super Reverb...

That's part of his show...breaking strings! ;)

Yes...Tab does have a Super Reverb too and probably another 10 amps we do not know about.

Thanks for the correction.
