Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

Re: Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

These are very different guitars. The JP has 24 frets, which I don't like. The Luke has EMGs, that have routings that limit what you can replace them with. This depends on what you are after. If I had to choose, I'd go with the Luke without the Floyd.

Re: Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

the seller told me it had a warmer tone

and versatile
so, much better than the luke and his reputation

why do you prefer the luke if you do not like the emg ?

It might be for a number of reasons. I personally don't like the necks on the JP's, but the sound is much better in my opinion. The Luke 1 and 2 have EMG's, but the Luke 3 has Dimarzios (with the option of HSS of HH).

I would guess the reason is that EMG can be replaced with a different pickup, the rest of the guitar can stay the same.

It's very rare to buy a guitar because of the pickups included in it. Most people want a guitar that's firstly comfortable to play, then change the pickups to suit their playing style.

If one can find a guitar that they find easier to play & comes with the electronics they need, then that's good too.

So much this. Everyone has their own preferences with the sound of their instruments. I always buy a guitar that has the features I can't change, such as comfort and number of frets, because I can always change out electronics.

Re: Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

i don't know how to change the pickups !
so it's with a luthier if i want more

24 frets is very good because it can be like an sg which is my favorite : i like the double cutaway

i am not a Petrucci fan but when i listen to this

it's much better than any Vai and Satriani
Satriani has a "little sound" and not warm like this one

the luke 3 would be an option too

Re: Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

^that sound is mostly the mesa boogie roadster or rectifier or mark series, petrucci's pickup always seem to have a neutral eq.

You should try to find a mini rectifier or mark 5:25, neither would be much louder than your Lc15r but would get you the sound without extra pedal purchases. Or look into a Jet City JCA2212C combo. They all have a master volume knob so using it in an apartment is not a problem, besides the sound you are chasing doesnt involve much power tube distortion anyways.

Also you don't need a dedicated luthier to change pickups, just take it to an electronis repair shop(radio/tv repair), provide them a coloured printout of the wiring diagram & they'll do the soldering within an hour ;D

Re: Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

good ideas

:cool3:

an electronic repair shop ?
original : -)

i know a guitar shop with a seller but it's not a luthier: i will ask him too

and about the metal sounds i can find a used Mesa throttle box eq

i think it's the best pedal for that

Re: Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

why not
but
Tubes: 5x 12AX7 Preamp /2x EL84 Power
7 tubes!!
20w can be very loud ?
for example my SL5 is very loud with his 5w
so i don't use it and i am not a fan

have you the jet city ?

Re: Musicman Petrucci vs LUKE 2 -3

We have some jet city amps at a store near me. I found they sound better than some 5W amps at same volume settings. The 2212C will be as loud as your LC15. Out of the 5 preamp tubes, one is for the clean channel & one for the fx loop, remaining three are for the other channel, eq and phase inverter functions. Two el84s will help it to stay cleaner longer before they start distorting but not as much like a proper el34 would. I have the lc50ii laney, its bit louder than the 2212. The sound will be fatter than the sl5 or lc15 but not that much louder than the lc15.

They should be available in France i think or atleast thomman has them, try to find one at a shop & test it out if possible. I like them, very dynamic amps, respond very well to volume knob https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Tb5F080iSM4
