Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

I went to install my new PATB pickups in my Ibanez, and discovered this nonsense.

DiMarzio... Always making my life difficult.

Time to whip out the metal file.

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

Common complaint with those guitars. I fixed it handily with a pair of tin snips.

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

Depth was an issue with my Jackson, because I had bought Slash Alnico 2 pickups for it, not realizing the long legs would not fit... On the bright side of that, I was introduced to the PATB-3, a few weeks ago as a direct result... Leading me to today.

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

They did have routes at one stage within the last 10 years to accommodate Duncan style legs, but they seem to have reverted back to DiM type ones.

Some Ibanezes do come with Duncans, but being J-Custom, it means forking out.

I can see why they do it, it looks better, with the standard square shape it does kinda look like it's missing the mounting ring...

But what a pain in the neck.

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

Haha. I think all legs should be triangular and routes be rectangular, so that it'd accommodate a wider range of pickups.

If you wanna mod guitars, learn to use a file. And a soldering iron, and a Dremel tool.

Shoot . . . if it was easy, everyone would do it. Then, where would the satisfaction be? ;)

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

You can use a pair of wire cutters to clip the corners and then use a Dremel tool to smooth and round it out.

Interesting that the "better" (top o the line) Ibanez's come with Seymour Duncan... Coincidence?????? I dont think so.....

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

Yup. I already guessed that's the problem. I read through an Ibanez catalog the other day and thought that might be an Ibby-DM conspiracy. Besides you don't see many Ibanez models with Duncans as stock, except maybe for the MTM model.

But they're putting EMG's in on more than a few stock guitars. So maybe it's just a conspiracy against Duncan.
