Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

I was told by someone else, on another forum I'm a regular on, that PATB's won't fit this pickup route at all, regardless of the legs, because the PATB bobbins are too big.

Only options I see are, after removing the DiMarzio's from the cavity and confirm that the PATB's fit or not, is to either dremel the cavities a little, to make room, but potentially ruin the body... Or trade/sell the guitar, for another Jackson DK2 or whatever, which I don't wanna do.

I talked to the tech who normally does my repairs and stuff, he said DiMarzio doesn't even make a pickup that matches the PATB's tonally, basically 1 of a kind pickups... And he sells both, it's not a sales thing.

Doesn't even need a re-route, we're talking a shave. At first glance I thought maybe the base plate could be filed down a little, but the bobbins themselves are too big.

It's things like this that make me really dislike Ibanez as a company.

Everyone and their uncle uses a standard humbucker route that can accommodate almost any humbucker under the sun, but ibanez just HAS to go and do it differently. So annoying.

Re: Must be a DiMarzio/Ibanez conspiracy

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think Musicman and Jackson both use the same route when they direct mount Dimarzios.

FWIW, I think standard Duncan's would have fit with no issue. I don't understand why the PATB's are made with different shaped bobbins.

Interesting that the "better" (top o the line) Ibanez's come with Seymour Duncan... Coincidence?????? I dont think so.....

Hmm, not really. J-Customs come with all sorts of different pickups, from the standard Air Norton/True Velvet/Tone Zone DiMarzio combo to Duncan Jazz/C5 and this year they introduced Bareknuckle pickups, the Aftermath set for the RG and Nailbomb for the S Series. They also have EMG equipped models.

I was gonna say something, but forgot what it was, and instead Googled that Kate Upton video.

The Parallel Axis is the culprit...any other Duncan pickup will fit....
since it has 2 pole pieces per string per bobbin...
the inner core of the bobbin has to be longer to accommodate.....therefore the total length is longer as well.....
Duncan sells these pickups with their own bezel for that reason.....because they wont fit in a standard one......

It fit the route in my Jackson with no issue, which has standard humbucker routes. While the pickup is in fact bigger, it still fits a standard humbucker route, the Ibanez route is the culprit.
