must have effects?

Re: must have effects?

I would try and resist that craving until after you've been in the studio. If the studio and engineer are any good they will be able to supply/apply any effects you might need. If you're happy with the way you're sounding now, just go into the studio that way.

Then, if you get to try/hear anything you like in the studio you can buy it afterwards to supplement your live rig. Hold your horses!! :)

Simon, you didn't turn your post into an annectode from when you were hanging with Cream in '69, or something. I'm disappointed!! :)

I would most definitly have flanger, phaser and delay on hand. Try not to let the engineer sucker you into using their digital on board effects, it really does rob your tone imo. Flanger sounds awsome with clean guitar. I love that effect in stereo.

i'm not a big effects user but i got myself an MXR evh phase 90 and i was amazed at how cool is sounds in certain places of songs i wrote for my band a while ago, it adds a nice spice to a song if used in the right place and it's just something fun to play with.

Actually, I was just repeating what Jimi said to me when we were taking a beer break during the Electric Ladyland sessions. That was just before I went back in and overdubbed the three radically different solo sections for All Along The Watchtower.
