Mustang bass pu

I want to install a bridge pu in a Mustang bass. Would like a j-bass but the string spacing is too wide even if I angle it. Any suggestions or experience? Not a lot of room for experimenting since there's no pickguard. Once the cut is done that's it. And, no, it's a reissue not a vintage.

Doesn't the Hot Stack for Jazz bass have a rail polepiece? If so, you might want to consider it.
