Mustang pickups

Hello everyone, I'm pretty sure this is my first post here. I was given a Fender Mustang 65 reissue as a gift this past Christmas. The pickups in it don't really do anything for me. Will regular Strat sized pickups fit in it? And what would be some good pickups to put in it? I mostly play stuff that would sound like if Cheap Trick, Green Day and Nirvana had a baby, but I don't want to be limited to that. I also like to play surf music. Thanks for any help.

I have a 22 inch scale DuoSonic with SSL-6's in both positions. The SSL-6's are great because they have a tight aggressive sound which overcomes muddiness due to the short scale and because they can handle high gain well. They are very versatile and can cover a wide spectrum of musical styles with varying gain.

yes. regular strat style pickups fit in a mustang. if you want to. Fralinpickups.com has a mustang cover optional with all of their strat pickups

In mine I have APS's, which are low enough output to have a good clean sound and at the same time give a bit heavier, spongier of a sound under distortion... love em.

Yes they are just like a normal strat pup.

I have a mustang a reissue too. I have this "i love you" "i hate you" relationship with her.

In the beginning it was pretty much the i hate you feeling but everything changed when i put it a Quarter Pound Flat in the bridge.
Lately since i lost my strat (someone broke into my car and stole it with my car-stereo as well, luckly they were lazy enough to not to steal my amp) I've been playing it a lot and i've been thinking about trowing a SSL3 in the neck but what im not sure about is if I should get the regular neck pup or something else cos of the On/Off Slider, In/Out Phase Switch

An RWRP middle could be used to make it hum cancelling with the QP when both are on (my fave position in a Mustang). But that has nothing to do with the switch.

Though I used a middle as a bridge and the neck as the neck with mine and threw away the extra pickup (jk), because I like lower output. Same effect.

Thanks for all the replies. What does the Quarter Pound pickup sound like? And what does anyone think it would be like with two cool rails in it? Thanks.

I'm planning on putting a Fast Track 1 in the neck and Fast Track 2 in the bridge in my 65 Duo Sonic. I went with those because the blades make the very narrow string spacing a non-issue, they'll most certainly make the Duo more distortion friendly, and mostly because I have 'em sitting in a baox at home.

Seriously though, I tried the FT1 along with the stock neck pickup and it was pretty killer. The output was bumped up from stock but it was just about as bright in the top end with a bigger, tighter low end.

Newer reissues are made only with the normal B width neck (same as a typical strat), so string spacing usually isn't an issue with the Jap ones, aside from the slant on the neck pickup...

No clue on any humbucking options myself, I like SCs The clips on the SD website of the Quarter Pounders clean makes me want to vomit, and the distorted tone doesn't sound any better than anything lower output, but some people rave about them so...

I like singles too, Dangles, but I can't find any true singles with blades and the Hot Stacks are too deep for my Duo.
