In my never ending search to tweak my sound...... instead of learning how to actually play the guitar :) I have ordered one of these bad boys.

Any one with comments on these??? Will I be happy.... at least for a little while???

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

I have one. Got it a couple months ago.

It's great.

Won't make a bad amp sound good, but it will give you the ability to get a little more or less of whatever part of your sound you like or don't. A great tool.

It also lets the signal through even when unplugged if bypassed, which is great. If it died for some reason at a show, you won't have to stop playing to get it out of your signal chain.

It's also quiet in the loop. Somewhat less so in front.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

If you have never used an EQ before, here is an EQ Rule of Thumb:

A little boost or cut goes a long way.

Read the set up instructions in the booklet.

Because I use several guitars with one amp, mine is in the loop. This lets me set up a base sound, then I have less tweeking of tone control knobs when I change guitars.

Some folks will say that the MXR 10 band w/ the low and high bands are a waste of money because they are out of the guitars' range. Maybe yes or maybe no, this one is up to you.

Have used several other EQ pedals - 6 band MXR, Dan Electro, and Boss. This seems to be the quietest pedal out of the box.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

I use one on my recording board for small tweaks. I get everything I can out of pedal/amp tweaks and mic placement but sometimes you just need a little more or less of something. The MXR 10 band is the best I have come across. Getting it right at the source makes makes it easier to layer other instruments effectively and really makes mixing easier when you don't have to create the sound after the fact

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

dig my 6 bander. the overall volume control would be nice though! essential for my amps with no tone knobs or just one tone knob. (I like mine through the front for more push)

Good idea, but skip this one and get the KFK signature version. So you can punish two amps at once. LOL. :headbang:

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

Great EQ! The input and output gains are a really good feature that some other EQs don't have. This is the exact model that I use and couldn't be happier. It's great for tweaking the EQ to correct the particular tonal characteristics of the venue you're playing.

+1 to putting it in the loop rather in than front.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

When I bought my QR, the dude also sold me one of these. Said it makes it even better. I was like... hmm But, i can tailor the tone and even use as a boost.. very cool

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

Alot of the Splawn guys rant and rave about them, but as they're almost £120 over here, I've not bought 1 until I can try 1 to see if they're as great as they all say.

THey are $110 US which is no bargain price either.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

I bought one from XSSIVE three days ago. It came in the mail today, and I am totally blown away. I know I've only had it since this morning, but I love this EQ pedal. It's a little noisey, but that's nothing that the noise reduction on my G Major can't fix. I've only run it in front of the amp thusfar. I'll try it in the loop later on. Also, I've only run it through my Blackstar HT-5 so far as well. I love the gain slider. I bumped it up a tad over 0. Y'all may think I'm crazy, but I like what it does better than either one of my MXR overdrives.

When I first plugged it in I just started adjusting the sliders by using my ears. I started looking at the settings they had posted awhile after I had been playing, and the way I had it set was almost identical to their scooped metal tone except that I had left the 500hz and 1kz sliders left right about in the middle. Anyways, I love this pedal thusfar.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

Well, it's 10 bands plus volume and gain vs. the typical 7 bands you see on, say a Mk IV or something.

Otherwise, it works similarly.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

I use this model in the effects loop of my Vox Valvetronix Head...Love it,quiet, built tough, and it works great...Yes the gain and volume sliders are a wonderful plus!

Jolly I gotta tell ya, you don't even hear 1/5th of what this pedal can do until you put it in the loop. It's much less noisy that way as well.

An old post I know but just come across it. I've just sold my effects unit and am just using this. Too much endless tweaking searching for tones and not enough playing so I can identify with this. Surprising how many tones you can get just by using this into a decent ampl
