MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

How would using one one of these compare to an in- amp EQ like in a Boogie?

My Boogies have the built-in graphic, although I still have the option of using my KFK 10-band as a lead boost (use Lead channel on mid setting as crunch, then EQ pedal for high gain), or a as a boost for the R2 channel only.

The upper sliders are quite sensitive and can quickly put you in Hissville if you're not careful. I only use the lower-mid sliders and a mild gain boost. It is actually more useful for my Marshall.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

Be aware that this pedal runs at +18 volts

And doesn't take batteries.

As a final scuplt before the poweramp it isn't near as good as the built-in boogiEQ, or the boogiEQ pedal for that matter.

As a front-ender I didn't like it as well as their (MXR) 6-band. (9v/batteries)
I like (EQ6) to hump-up the lower and center mids going in by about 4db at the peak, and then the second slider from the right also a couple db.
The two outer bands would be at 0 or sometimes -1db if it was hissy or muddy.
I'd really just try to use the amp to fine-tune. (rectifiers)

As a front-boost though I'm happier with boost/OD than with traditional EQ.

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

I hate to sound like an ass, but do the 31hz, 62hz and 16k bands really do anything worth the extra dough?

I've got a GE7 and I've never wanted to tweak anything below 100 hz, which I already think it's a bit too low for guitar.
And over 8k only lives pain... and fizz.

The GE7 does have some flaws and I can see why everyone does the Sniper mod or whatever it's called, but I've always scractched my head at those outer bands the MXR has. But I've never tried one.
I'd rock the crap out of the 500, 1khz and 2khz bands though. If you can't sculpt a nice midrange out of that, it's gotta be your fault!

Sorry for dredging up an old post, but what is the Sniper mod? Or whatever the mod is for the GE7? What benefit does it make? I have a GE7, but replaced it with the MXR 10 band..

By the way, I posted earlier that I wasnt sure if Id run the 10 band in the loop, but yes. I have my board split to where I can chain everything into the front, OR can run the eq, delays and such into the loop and my wah ,ns and dirt pedals into the front

Re: MXR 10 Band EQ Pedal

Great EQ I've used this and the GE-7 and I much prefer the MXR 10 Band.
I use it to create filthy oversaturated tones and other times to cut bass back abit tighten up the low end, remove high end fizz and boost the mids to get some clear punch.
Having the lower bands makes it applicable for bass and progressive styles
