Both of mine came in Classic OD mode, although I've heard some didn't.
If you don't want to disassemble the pedal to find out, bend a heavy duty paperclip and try to hook the switch by reaching around the underside of the board. If it loses bass and mids, it's in Zakk Wylde mode. The thicker mode is Classic OD.

It cames as a GT-OD. Some may be buying units that were switched over and returned.

That's what I think too. Plus, there's a lot of BS on the internet. I'm sure all of them came switched properly.

My classic od came in GT-OD mode. The weird thing with mine is that I modded it with a switch, ran the wires parallel with the new switch and now the left side is GT-OD and right side is ZW. Isn't the stock switch the opposite?

I modded mine with a switch too, but I pretty much leave it on the ZW side, so it was kind of a waste of time.

On it's own the ZW is weaker and more midrangey, people say it's flat, but it's not. It works real well to tighten up a secondary gain source after it, in my case the MarkIII or a Rat at home.
The GT-OD is more like a standard OD, louder by a good bit, still pushes the mids a bit, but nowhere near TS levels, and it isn't as effective at cutting the low end and tightening up. Someone on here says it sounds like a Fulldrive, which I can't cop to, but there you go.
There's a pretty significant difference, and both settings are really good at what they do. Great pedal.

mine was in classic/GT mode - its much fatter and chunkier than the ZW mode anyway.
and yeh - reckon the classic mode does dound like a fulldrive with vintage/mosfet engaged and the boost on. Ive spent a long time a/b ing them into clean fender amps - its not identical, but pretty damn close!

The original switch is a "slide switch" which connects the contacts underneath the sliding handle. You probably replaced it with a mini-toggle switch, which connects the contacts opposite the direction of the handle.

Even if it's "new" it still could have been a pedal that was returned with all packaging and in new condition and put back in to stock as new.

Let's not get too crazy, an SD-1 doesn't smash the ZW. The ZW is similar, but it's intended for a more specific purpose, which it does very well, better than an SD-1.
As a stand alone OD though, yes, the SD-1 is better.

I've got a keeley one, perhaps that makes the difference. I've never used a stock sd-1.

Such an easy mod, I had to do it.
Take care screwing around with the in/outputs though. Metal into plastic and all.
The plastic can damage real easy.
