I'm looking for some info on this pedal. Here's a link to it from Musician's Friend:

I've read a lot of reviews with people saying it gives them a great distorted tone or whatever. But I'm wondering, does it give you a good clean tone? What I want this pedal to do is change my tone from a distorted sound on the distortion channel of my amp to a clean sound. Would that work? Thanks.

Re: MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ

i guess you could use it to lower the input volume from your guitar to amp, but doesnt your volume pot also do that?

Re: MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ

Yeah but I've tried that and found that I can't turn the volume knob quickly enough while playing. So I was looking for some sort of pedal to do the job.

Re: MXR M-108 Ten Band Graphic EQ

Yes that will work. Personally I would get one with a minimum volume knob so it can be set just in the right spot.

good luck,
edm

Dude, if all you want to do is lower the volume enough to make the signal clean, just wire a potentiometer as a volume knob and wire it up to a switch. Hit the switch, volume goes down to the right level, hit it again, wallah! Back to normal!

Switch: $10
Metal Enclosure: $10
Potentiometer: $3
Wire: $.50
Total difference in money... about $96.49. You can send me a check for the difference, if you want. :) If you dont know how to do this, I could build you one...

Oh yeah, in order for the volume decrease to clean up the signal, you usually have to have a volume control right after the guitar signal... I'm not sure how the MXR EQ's are wired, but it is possible that if the volume is post eq, it will only lower the volume, and not clean it up.

...If you put what I'm proposing right after your guitar, it'll work perfectly.

Yes.

I recommend the Ernie Ball Jr volume, but they're a little more expensive...

All right I'll look into that. What advantages does the EB have over the Dunlop?

hey on the same note as making a pedal, could i make one to change my tone? also the pedal will not need a battery correct?

if you made a pedal that acted like the tone knob of the guitar it would not need a battery.

you would make it about the same as the volume just add a cap to one of the pots lugs.
