MXR M159 vs Original Dunlop Tremolo?

Aceman

I am your doctor of love!
I have heard/played a Dunlop. But how does the new MXR version compare? Sick of surfing the bay for a vintage.

Anyone? Trem geeks?

That's all? Really? Not being skeptical, but I'm being skeptical. The old ones still seem to move on the bay. And it is a different sized creature. That said, maybe so.

HAve a reference?

The original Dunlop branded ones were discontinued then a while later were brought back in a more pedal board friendly size box as the MXR. The Dunlop TS-1 had stereo in's and outs but the stereo in's used a stereo jack meaning you had to have a Y cord and the MXR version has 2 separate jacks and the TS-1 is 9 volts while the MXR version is 18 volts but thats just for added headroom which some folks did complain about on the TS-1.

As for a reference, check Dunlops webpage...they are clear than the MXR is a streamlined (more pedaboard friendly) version of the Dunlop...no trying to hide it. Besides the fact that they sa so on their page they also painted them the same colours, gave them the same controls an dused the same graphics...should be pretty clear.

Here is the blurb from Dunlop.com

"With its warm analog circuitry and lush tremolo sound, the Dunlop TS-1 set the standard for tremolo pedals for over a decade. The MXR M159 Tremolo keeps all the effects and controls of the original—but in a smaller, pedalboard-friendly size."

I have also tried them both at the same time and can tell you they are the same...I use a stereo in/out tremolo and these 2 were on the short list. I ended up with a Boss PN-2 but did give these both a run and can tell you, they are the same.

PN-2 is the classy choice in BOSS unless you are going Keeley mod.

Cool...

I actually like the TR-2 as well, even stock and even better after Boss incorporated some of the AnalogMan mods but I had to have stereo outs as well as stereo in's which really limits my options.

I am just a Trem Geek.

I know of the awesome of the Dunlop, just never really bothered to dig into the MXR change. Thanks.
