Are these things any good? I know there may be better, but these things sure are cheap.

Is there a specific problem you need gated? I have several pedals in my chain, but not one is a noise gate. I do have a volume pedal that I use for both dynamics and for muting while not playing. On stage, even the PA has a slight his, so that isnt a live audio problem. I can also assure you that the audience's heads are ringing, so they dont hear it either...... I was just wondering if you wanted one, or were trying to use one to solve a different problem?

Well...back in the old days before MXR was owned by Jim Dunlop, before Fender amps had master volumes, and when a 75 Stratr was just a used guitar (and not a very good used guitar!), there was an MXR Noise Gate...IMO it was good FOR THE TIME, but things today are far better (at lease when you're talking about noise gates!)

The only thing I disliked about the HUSH was how cheaply it was made. My Super C crumbled away and it was very fragile, so I wouldn't recommend it for live playing unless you have a good rack protecting it.
I have a Boss NS-2 and I love it. No tone suckage, eliminates virtually all noise with little to no hassle and it's built like a tank.
