Took that POS Kustom 36 Coupe back to the store yesterday. Thank god they were willing to give me store credit, so I scored a minty fresh/lo mileage used Peavey Penta w/matching 4X12 cab for only $999. Considering Musicians Friend sells the head for $1299 and the cab for $759 I'd say I did ok. What's even cooler is that it is the only Penta to come into town. :dance:

That sounds like a really cool amp, let us know what you think of all the different voicings. Seems like a versitile yet plug and play type of amp. Congrats!

Lately I had been missing my old Sovtek Mig60, and all the amps I have had since just didnt have that special something. Until now. The Penta captures "that sound" I love, and then some. Three of the distortion settings are all out Marshall, you get everything from Plexi to JCM 800 crunch. The clean settings are reminiscent Hi-Watt, very loud and chimey. The last and least favorite setting (Mudflap girl) is basically the Ultra channel on the Triple X. I would definetly suggest that those of you who, like me have always wanted an old Marshall but could never find or afford one check out this amp. Way to go Peavey:)

Congrats man. I'm holding out for the Windsor to cure my "old Marshall" needs. :fingersx:

That's a great deal. Those Pentas look interesting. You're going to have a lot of fun with that one.

Oh man the Windsor looks like it's going to be another winner from Peavey. If the store I went to didn't have the used Penta I was going to wait and get the Windsor. It's about time a mainstream company releases an affordable hi quality Marshall style amp. Sovtek and RedBear totally nailed it, but they're gone and incredibly difficult to source.

Sovtek's can be had off ebay for peanuts. Just be willing to spend what they're worth and not what you expect to pay for them. Prices are climbing as folks learn just how cool those amps really are.

I don't buy gear that I can't test out, so Ebay isn't an option. I live in a small city and the few Sovteks and RedBears that did make it here aren't for sale. I was the only one dumb enough to get rid of mine (If only I had "Just said no" to drugs):smack:
I can't answer your question about trading the Mesa for a Penta because I've never been a fan of Mesa, I've always preferred the sound of a Plexi to a Rectifier.
