Wife just came back from garage sales. She bought this for me.
Epiphone L.P Special 2. Don't have a clue what's in it, says made in Indonesia.
Fifty bucks ain't bad. Step one, cut the multicolored strings off.

Re: My $50 guitar

She brought in the door and said she bought it cause she thinks I'm special. After 20 odd years I still don't like the way she says that.

Re: My $50 guitar

Well, strung it up, played it for an hour. It's actually not so bad. I kinda like it. The frets, and neck feel really good, nice and smooth no buzzing. The bridge and stop bar are solid, no wobbling. May have to give the nut a slight file.
The pots and switch aren't crackling which is nice. The pickups are o.k.I think they will get a little squeally if it gets louder.
Play it some more, maybe mod it up, maybe not.

Re: My $50 guitar

Don't know but I think that's what's in there. Maybe I should do some searching.
Nope says American designed 650R neck 700T bridge.

My $50 guitar

I bought the P-90 version of it new a couple years ago for $99. Great little guitar and fun to play. I have no clue about the humbuckers, but the Epi P-90s are great and the neck feels good. I ended up upgrading the bridge (mine came with a cheap wraparound) and tuners.

Congrats!

Re: My $50 guitar

I think you can still find cheapo eBay counterfeit Strats $50 new. I bought one a couple years back and reviewed it here; TLDR I was surprised it was actually playable at that price point, but it had some ridiculous flaws. Still own it, but to be honest thinking about putting the stock electronics back in it and dumping it at a Guitar Center; I got annoyed with the neck and a regular spec. Fender replacement doesn't fit.

Dude...check your local paen shops for Squier SE strats. My brother got a nice sunburst one for 40 bones. I just picked up a Mustang Bullit for 70 at GC. These were just to see how much guitar one can get for cheap and for fun mods. I have to say, these newer Squiers are pretty darned solid for what they are.

Re: My $50 guitar

I have bought Affinity and Bullet Strats for around 50 bucks used at Guitar center
If it says Peavey on the headstock it's even less

For around $50 I bought an old Yamaha RGZ at Guitar Center that plays as well as anything. I was really just curious about what that amount would get you in a new guitar, more than I was being practical.

Affinities/Bullets are great as far as build and sound. Really don't like the rough neck finish though; G&L Tributes and some MIM Fenders are at least matte without being rough.

The Squier necks have an easy fix. Wipe em down with a damp cloth to get the wood's "hairs" up, then polish with 0000 steel wool. You can then tung oil it if you wish.

Don't say steel wool
Goobers will come out of nowhere to scold you

Use scotchbrite
It'll be our safe word
