My !980 Ibanez dt-50 destroyer

Re: My !980 Ibanez dt-50 destroyer

I want this guitar so bad.

You mean the Saint Seiya dt 50 hs? I think a gotoh 510 wraparound bridge will go well with it,

The image runs onto the sides of the body as well as the back of the headstock. I have also made some custom cavity covers with more graphics for it and a larger jack plate cover.

It has been a lot of work but its not far of being finished.

and even knife marks where someone has ran a Stanley knife or something along it:18:.

Sure it's not a finish crack along a line between body pieces or down a piece's wood grain? Some of my Japanese guitars get those, especially the ones with thin settled finishes like that one. Very prominent on a Matsumoku Destroyer-shaped Quest Atak, btw. Strangely enough, it's harmless, won't split or break or anything.

Nice guitar! Dings add mojo. Knife scars add wail, cry, and sustain.

I was fortunate to score an orange burst DT400 off the 'bay several months back. Great guitars. I'd love to have one of the natural korina models. I think I prefer the post-lawsuit body shape over the more literal explorer knock-off.

Doesn't look like knife scars. It's the way that finish ages. Oh, and korina? That was just a finish on the Destroyer. No actual Korina underneath.

I sense some love for ibanez here. And i realized i might have to do a thread on my mij HHH sabre in a few weeks.

Depending on your age, did you your father or your grandfather do any ladykilling in Eastern Europe back in the day? Or any maternal line family of yours ever suspected of having inappropriately close relations with Soviet diplomats??? Cuz your stuff is EEERILY similar to mine... are we related or something???

This thread made me wanna post a different-brand MIJ Explorer/Destroyer (with similar "knife-line-fractures") and an old Sabre Custom.... Oh, and for the love of g-d tell me you don't also have an old bolton Jap LP, a blue or black MIJ strat and a pointy black Ibanez RD707 bass you wanna post???

Re: My !980 Ibanez dt-50 destroyer

True.

Mine's way different. Stock. Model named something incomprehensible and multi-tiered like "Ibanez Radius PRO Sabre 540 S".

Nicknamed 'Sabre Custom' for the inlay & for simplicity's sake, because there was also a similar hardtail that a friend had that had "Classic" written on the headstock, and got called a 'Saber Classic/S Classic' by some people.... well, that and "540 S" sounds ridiculously low-end using Ibanez's changed model number scale, plus it's nothing like the S-540... and, for further confusion, 540 S regularly gets misread as 5405. Although the existing S-5400 Prestige really is a lot closer to this than most of the other crud in the Sabre lineup today.

Mine's a stock '91.
* "HSS" Dimarzio IBZ/USA set - 1 humbucker & 2 single-sized vertical humbuckers
* first-generation LoPro Edge
* Wizard II (methinks)
* Gotoh tuners marked Made in Japan,
* "Custom Made" inlay
* Apparently misleading but stock "USA" neckplate
* F-serial, FujiGen Gakki

Yep it is beautiful and has inspired me. I am thinking of some Japanese inspired graphics for my next build. Maybe some koi fish art.

"Hooker turquoise metallic" nail polish on the larger nicks, perhaps?
