And a well-regarded repair tech told me that it's unlikely to self-destruct anytime soon.

So, what now?

Do I just... play it?

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

You could drop it on the floor from a considerable height.

You could drop it on the floor from a considerable height.

It weighs fifty pounds. Given the construction quality in my building, the amp would end up in my downstairs neighbor's bedroom.

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

Yes, but would it still function?

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

Let me tour with it. That usually kills gear.

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

You know, pretty soon you're actually going to have to play all these guitars, pedals and amps.... ;)

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

I don't mean to contradict you, but wont that just kill the resale value?

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

What -- dropping it through the floor?

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

You could just drop it out a window.

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

Just plug a guitar in with a short lead and go for a walk into the next room. That should stop it going through the floor. Make sure it's been on for a while.

Alternatively you could spill a drink in it...

Playing it of course. The floor can be explained many ways. Such as the ome that Slash wasn't getting the exact tone he wanted so he dropped it through the floor.

As much as it may pain you to hear this... YES, just play it! ;)

It seems like I read somewhere (probably online, so who knows how true it is) that guitar amps are designed for this type of functionality.

EDIT: Actually, you don't play the amp itself... you may find it more useful to a play a guitar through the amp!

Is it holding it's tone while played submerged in a swimming pool? That's the ultimate in 'wet' effects.

Now let's not get extreme or carried away here. I mean, seriously ... this is a gear forum ...

the obvious thing to do now is mod it in every way possible until it no longer resembles the amp you purchased, making sure to spend way more on the mods than what the amp originally cost.

Then get frustrated because the amp no longer sounds like the amp you bought, put it up for sale and take a massive hit because it's no longer original, and then start the search for a new amp (one that does what you want .... probably after a few mods).

Thirty years and as many amps will fly past in the blink of an eye and you'll remember this amp fondly and search long and hard for another one, which will be old and in poor condition. Get it serviced (and maybe modded) and remember the good old days.

But for lawd's sake, don't play, that only causes trouble and wastes valuable shopping/ modding time.

I'd kind of been waiting for someone to mention that. I don't know where I picked up that colloquialism, but I think I like it.

Re: My amplifier hasn't broken yet.

It really is a nice amp, I think. Easily my favorite cleans of any amp I've owned. (Though I'm not really counting my DRRI, because I was too dumb to appreciate it while I owned it.)
